Starwood Amex Retention Bonus, 이제는 이메일로

작년 이맘때 Starwood Amex 카드 연회비를 내는 대신에 3천포인트를 retention bonus를 받는 방법을 소개시켜드렸는데요.

전화를 한다는게 갈수록 귀찮아지는 요즘이라 이메일로도 되는지 한 번 시도를 해봤습니다.
Amex 홈페이지에 로긴을 하시면 오른쪽에 secure message center라고 나오는데요. 거기에 general inquiry를 골라서 다음과 같이 이메일을 보냈습니다.
Hi. I just learned that I was charged $45 annual fee. I truly enjoy the SPG Amex credit card, but is there any way you can waive the annual fee? If you can’t, can you award me 3,000 SPG point as a retention bonus? Thank you so much for your kind attention to this inquiry.

그랬더니 12시간 만에 답장이 왔는데요.

Thank you for your email.
While we truly appreciate your position concerning this matter, we are unable to waive the Membership Fee. Please know that the annual fee supports a variety of benefits and services.
I am glad to know that you truly enjoy using your Starwood Card.
However, as a gesture of respect to your relationship with American Express, I have credited your account with 3,000 Bonus StarPoints. These 3,000 StarPoints will be transferred to your Starwood Preferred Guest Membership number ….. within 3-5 business days.
I hope I was able to address your concern to your satisfaction. We assure you of our best services at all times. If there is any other way we may be of assistance, please contact us.
We appreciate and value your Membership with American Express since 2000.

그리고 포인트는 하루 정도만에 바로 들어왔구요.
연회비가 부가되었는데 전화하기 부담스러우신 분들 잘 활용하시면 좋겠습니다.
아직도 아직도 Starwood 프로그램과 막강한 제휴카드 SPG Amex를 모르신다면 이거야 말로 큰 문제입니다.

얼마전 amex에서 설문조사를 했는데, starwood카드의 여러가지 옵션중 어떤것을 선호하는지 뭍는 설문이었는데, 그중에 한50불정도의 연회비와 5000포인트 매년 지급하는 옵션도 있던걸로 기억합니다. 아마, amex에서도 연회비 대신 포인트 지급을 기정 사실화 하는듯 합니다…^^

어제 이 글 보고 바로 이멜보내서 2,500 준다는 답을 받았습니다. 밑져야 본전이라 훨씬 많이 불렀는데 저 정도면 만족합니다. 그래도 웨이버도 안 해주고 retention bonus 라는 것도 없다면서 좀 세게 나오시더라고요. 아래는 본문.

A review of your card shows that you did get 10,000 welcome bonus points when you acquired the Starwood Card in April 2007.
We do not offer a waiver of the annual Membership Fee except for the 1st year, which is on us for some card product, sometimes, as it is with the Starwood card. There are also sometimes Marketing Offers that offer extra points and bonus but there are not “retention” bonus. We also send out marketing offers for Member Get Member as a means of earning extra Starpoints.
Because we value your Cardmembership Mr. Park, I have issued 2,500 points to your account as a courtesy to you.

저도 얼마전 $45불이 차지 된 것을 까먹고 있다가 오늘 이메일을 보냈는데, 포인트가 아니고 $45불을 Waive해 주겠다는 메일을 받았습니다.
아무래도 Handle하는 CSR에 따라서 다른 결과가 나오는 것이 아닌가 생각되네여…
제 경우에는 lucky가 아닌가 싶습니다…

요즘 말대로 case by case죠. 일년간 구매한 금액등 아멕스 내부적으로 retention bonus를 지급하는 기준이 아마 있을거라 생각합니다.
