6세, 3세 두 아이의 엄마인 교포 이지은 (33세)님이 급성 백혈병으로 6개월 시한부 선고를 받았다고 합니다.
저는 전혀 몰랐는데 골수 이식은 인종적인 변수가 중요하다고 하는데, 미국 거주 한인, 아시아인들의 골수 기증 등록이 저조하다고 합니다.
"As a Korean-American, why is it even more important to sign up to donate for JiEun? When it comes to matching human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types, a patient’s ethnic background is important in predicting the likelihood of finding a match. This is because HLA markers used in matching are inherited. Some ethnic groups have more complex tissue types than others. So a person’s best chance of finding a donor may be with someone of the same ethnic background."
골수 기증 kit을 집에서 받아서 우편으로 보내서 등록을 할 수 있다는데, 링크를 한 번씩 봐주셨으면 합니다. 저는 예전에 등록을 한 것으로 기억을 하는데, 다시 한 번 확인을 해봐야겠네요.
