[Expired] CSP: UR 60,000 points + $300 travel credit

[Updated: 11.14.2024].

Please note that the $300 extra offer is now closed.

=====

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® card, issued by Chase, has an ongoing promotion.

In addition to the original offer of 60,000 UR points (after 3 months of $4,000 spend), the new offer includes an additional $$300 Chase Travel℠ Credit.

Since Sharp is one of the basic cards in Magic and you're probably familiar with it, we've summarized the important details.

1. card basic information

The Sharp Card is a $95 annual fee card that is arguably Chase's flagship product.

The points you earn with this card are Chase's own points, UR points = Ultimate Rewards points.

There are several ways to redeem points.

  • First, you can redeem them like cash. You can log in to the Chase site and apply them as a statement credit or get them as a check, where the value is 1 point = 1 cent, so 60,000 points are worth $600.
  • You can also book airline tickets and hotels through their own booking portal called Chase Travel℠, where 1 point = 1.25 cents. That's 60,000 UR points = $750 worth of value.

To increase the value of your points, you'll need to transfer them to airline miles or hotel points.

Fortunately, the Sharp card has a transfer function.

  • You can also transfer your earned UR points 1:1 to hotel programs Hyatt, Marriott, and IHG (except for Hyatt, of course, which you should never do because it's pointless).
  • You can also convert 1:1 to miles from over 10 airlines, including United, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, Lifemiles, and more.

Chase UR often runs point conversion bonus promotions.

At the time of publishing, there are ongoing promotions for British Airways 30% and Virgin Airways 40% awards.

Virgin miles are a relatively inexpensive redemption for ANA Business, 1st Class ticketswhich is why it's a popular program amongst the magical community.

This program has been a favorite of the Magicians over the past year when Korean Air tickets became available.

Korean Air tickets on Virgin have different deductions based on distance.

At the time of this post, LA-Incheon economy one-way is available for 31,000 miles.

Because during the promotion period, 23,000 UR points = 32,200 Virgin miles, Get one economy one-way ticket to South Korea for as little as UR 23,000which means that it's a

Of course, this doesn't mean it will always work.

I think these are things to consider and keep in mind.

Okay, that's the basics.

2. $300 travel credit

For this limited-time offer, you'll receive 60,000 points plus $300 travel credit. (You won't get it every year, but once in the first year of cardholder status)

This credit is called an automatic credit that you receive when you buy a flight or book a hotel on Chase Travel℠, Chase's own travel booking site.

Sharp's competitor, the Capital One Venture card, also had a $ $250 credit offer a while back, but in this case it was in the form of a discount coupon.

In the case of Sharp, it's not a discount coupon, but rather, if you use the card to book hotels, airline tickets, etc. (i.e., if you pay cash), you get $300 back.

3.

There are a few caveats to this offer.

(1) 5/24

First, this card is subject to 5/24.

This means that when you apply for a card, you'll be asked how many cards you've issued in the last two years, and once you've issued a card, you'll be included in the 5/24 count.

So if the total number of cards you've opened in the last 24 months from the time you apply for the card is more than 5, you should probably consider yourself unlikely to be approved.

(2) 48-month term

Chase's terms say that you won't get the sign-up bonus if you 1) have a Sapphire family card, or 2) it's been 48 months since you received a sign-up bonus on one of those Sapphire family cards.

When we refer to the Sapphire family of cards in #1), we're including the Sapphire Reserve, the Sharp Card, and the regular Sapphire Card with no annual fee.

For this reason, it's not known to be possible to get the sign-up bonus if you currently have a Sapphire family card.

In addition to 1), it's also important to note that 2) it must have been 48 months since your last signup bonus.

We're not counting just Sharp cards here, but all Sapphire family cards.

Let's wrap up today's post.

The Sharp card's sign-up bonus has gone up, which is great news, because with the addition of the $300 travel credit as a sign-up bonus, it's not hard to get $1,000 worth of value out of it, even if you're not a big spender.

However, it's important to note that card utilization can vary greatly depending on your travel patterns, spending patterns, where you live, and so on.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (Sharp) Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
60,000 UR points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of card issuance (60,000 UR points is $600 in cash)
Convertible at a 1:1 ratio to airline miles (United, Virgin, etc.) and hotel points (Hyatt, etc.)
$50 credit each year (based on membership year) when you book a hotel with Chase Travel (SM)
The annual fee is $95 for the first year.
A good introductory card for UR points.

It's a little less than the 80,000-point offer, but similar to the 75k offer, right? Sapph has a 4-year churning cycle, so if you're ready to churn with this offer, I think it's okay to go.

I'm sorry, what is a churning cycle?

      • I believe you are referring to 48 months. As explained in the text, this means that if you've received a Sapphire family card before and want to get a new one this time, you'll need to wait at least 48 months from the date you received the previous card's sign-up bonus.

        Reply
    • Yeah. It would have been better if it was 80,000 points, but I think there is something positive about having travel expenses that must be used for those who can't spend them because they are fighting for points.

      Reply
  • Isn't that a better deal than 80,000 points?
And I'm trying to refer to P2, but Chase site has a different offer.
How can I make an offer in this case?

    Reply
    • If you have different sign-up bonuses, Chase will often match if the difference is just points, but I don't think they'll match if you have a credit like I did in this case.

  • Mamo, I have a question for you.
Dynamic pricing for first-party award tickets starting October 30 [partner uncertain].
    You posted something about Virgin.
Partner uncertainty means that you're not sure if the partner deductible amount will change, right?
I'm trying to book my flight for next year before 10/30, in which case I should be able to buy the flight for 31000 points like now?
I bought a ticket on 10/30, and after Virgin announced the change in partners, if there is no change, I will cancel the ticket on the same day, but in this case, it is usually canceled within 24 hours, so I wonder if I will be refunded. I'm not a member, so I apologize for putting my question in capital letters!

    Reply
    • 1. Correct. It's unclear at this time if dynamic pricing will only apply to Virgin's own flights or if it will also apply to partner airlines like Korean Air or ANA.

      2. if you have space, it's probably a good idea to get your tickets now, before 10/30.

      3. I understand that you can cancel/refund within 24 hours. There was a thread on the message board a while back that said something similar.

I'm worried, the timing is perfect... I was waiting for 8-9 million offers, but they're giving out deals like yumche. It's getting harder and harder to get rid of them.

  • 1. does this mean I can book with Chase Travel(SM) and get cash back to my card account even if I don't spend?
    2. $300 or more to get $300, right?
    3. Chase Travel (SM) gives you a $50 credit every year based on your account opening date for any amount of hotel bookings, right?
    4. But since they're promoting the $300 travel credit, if I pay for the hotel first on Chase Travel (SM), I'll get the travel credit first, and the second hotel payment will go to the $50 credit, right? So in this case, I'll get the travel credit for the airfare first, and then the $50 for the hotel?

I'm waiting for the signup email, but I guess it hasn't been opened yet, so please put me on the list.

    Reply
    • 1. as I understand it.

      2. since it says total up to $300, I think it would also apply if you're making payments of $100, $200, and so on.

      3. That's how I understand it. Here's what the terms say. "$50 Annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit: A statement credit will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through Chase Travel, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50. Annual means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement date after your account anniversary, and the 12 monthly billing cycles after that each year. Annually, the first $50 in Chase Travel hotel purchases will not earn rewards points. Statement credit(s) will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement within 1-2 billing cycles after your purchase posts to your account."

      4. I'm not sure in what order this would be applied, but for hotels, double dipping and triple dipping would be theoretically possible. Of course, this is just a guess.

      5. added.

I have a question: If my husband opens the Sapphire Preferred, will he be eligible for the sign-up bonus?

When I opened the Sapphire in my name in April 2022, I added my husband as an additional cardholder (he was an international student who was just starting to build credit at the time, so I wanted to boost his credit score together). I received the sign-up bonus then, so I understand that even if I close the card and open a new one now, he won't be eligible for the sign-up bonus for another 48 months (so he'll have to wait until after April 2026, lol). However, since my husband is the primary cardholder and has never received a sign-up bonus, will he be eligible for a sign-up bonus if he opens a new Sapph this time?

  • Hi. When I go to the details page for the $300 credit, it only says 'first year'. It's the end of October and I have to use it by the end of this year?

    Reply
    • Yes. I think that's the right way to look at it.

How long after receiving the Amex signup bonus can I get it again?
Is it four years like Saaf?

    Reply
    • Amex basically says you get it once per lifetime, where lifetime = lifetime, and many believe it resets after 7 years or so.

  • I got the Sharp 80,000 point offer in the mail today - the first year $300 travel credit is gone, but they are offering a bonus of $50 hotel credit each year + 10% of the previous year's purchases.

    Reply
    • The $50 hotel credit and 10% in prior year purchases are standard features of the card, and they're also included in the offers we've featured in the text.

The difference is whether the signup bonus is 80,000 points or 60,000 + $300.

  • Does the $300 credit only apply after hitting the $4k mark, or can I book with chase travel anytime before then and still get the rebate?!

  • I'm a newbie... When I book with Chase TravelSM and get up to $300 back in credit, does that apply if I book with points I have accumulated at the time of booking? Or do you have to pay with the card?

    • The terms say: "A statement credit will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for purchases made through Chase Travel, up to a maximum accumulation of $300 within the first year of account opening."

Based on this, it appears that this is not the case when paying with points.

  • It's 5/24, is it possible to apply now? I'm vague if it's possible because I don't have more than 5, or if I can't apply because I already have 5. Thanks as always for the great information!

    Reply
    • If you're currently on 5/24, I don't think that's applicable, because 5 is not more than 5, it's more than 5, so it includes 5.

  • Thanks for the great information. I've been in the US for about a year now and just discovered Milemoa. If I miss this promotion, will the next one be around October next year?
Um, and if I apply and get rejected... How long afterward should I apply again so that it doesn't affect me?

    Reply
    • For the Sharp card, I think there's always been a promotion once or twice a year, so I think it'll be back in the second half of next year at the latest.

If you get a rejection, I would recommend at least a 3-month gap.

  • Hi thanks for the great information. I opened my Sharp with this deal in October 2024 last year, and the travel credit of $300 has to be used in December 2024? Or is the 12 months counted from the date of opening?

  • Hello, Mamo
I'm not a big spender, so I can usually make it through 3 months and $4,000 in one piece,
I'm thinking about getting a Chase Sharp card because I'm going to need to spend some money soon.

But I don't have a signup offer right now, so I'm wondering if I should wait a little longer or create one when I have something to spend money on.
Can you give me a rough idea of how often Chase signup offers come out?
