[Updated to 125,000 points] Sari Card Makeover

[Updated 08.21.2025].

The current offer is 125,000 points for 3 months of $6,000 spend.

Instead of the one-time $500 credit, you'll receive an additional 25,000 points.

For those of you who found the $500 credit difficult to redeem, the offer to get the entire signup bonus in points might be better.

Saree cards issued by Chase (Chase Sapphire Reserve®) is back with a major update.

I think the consensus is that this update is a good thing.

  • First, the bonus "once in a lifetime" rule was introduced, so for those of you who have had the Sari card in the past, the new benefits are literally a blessing in disguise!
  • The consensus seems to be that many of the new benefits are more of a hassle to use than a real upgrade worth the increased annual fee.

But, That the UR 100,000 points + $500 Chase Travel℠ promo credit after 3 months of $5,000 spend is the highest sign-up bonus we've ever seen, so it's a great offer for first-time Sari cardholders.I don't think there's any disagreement about that.

We're also hearing that the newly introduced Points Boost feature (a variable value rather than a fixed 1.5-cent value when redeeming UR points for cash on Chase Travel℠) has some positive aspects to it, contrary to some concerns.

At the end of the day, the question is: Is it worth keeping the Sari card in year two?

In today's post, we'll show you what's new with the Sari card,

  • Offer Basic History
  • A full complement of benefits
  • Good to know, but ambiguous benefits
  • Great perks for big spenders
  • Things to keep in mind
  • Card application eligibility requirements

and more to break it down.

New in this release is the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ Card (Sapphire Reserve for Business℠)will be covered in a separate article.

1. Offer Basic History

The basics of this offer are

  • 5,000 for 3 months
  • 125,000 UR points, which are Chase's own points
  • On top of that, you'll receive a $500 Chase Travel℠ promo credit to use on Chase's own travel booking portal, Chase Travel℠ (this is a one-time offer and will expire if you don't use it up).

Considering that the sign-up bonus was UR 100,000 points when the Sari card was first launched in the past, the sign-up bonus itself is probably the best offer ever.

However, the annual fee has increased significantly for the newly launched Sari card.

In the past, a year ago, $550 $450but if you apply now, you'll have to pay $795 in annual fees for the first year.

The answer to the question of whether it's worth the annual fee is whether the new and updated benefits are actually meaningful to you, and I would say that depends a lot on where you live, your travel patterns, and your spending habits.

2. sufficiently available benefits

There are a number of new benefits that have been introduced.

In my personal opinion, there are two of these benefits that are fully available and can therefore play a real role in lowering your annual fee.

1) $300 annual travel credit

The $300 travel credit is a case where a benefit that existed before has survived.

The idea is that you can automatically earn up to $300 in credit each year (on your anniversary year) as long as your spending qualifies for travel, with no strings attached (like using specific sites).

This benefit is so easy to use that it can be argued that it actually lowers the annual fee.

2) $500 credit for stays with The EditSM

The second is The EditSM This is a new benefit tied to the hotel program (seeOffer available for existing sari holders starting 10/26/2025.)

The EditSM is Chase's version of Amex's Fine Hotels & Resorts hotel program, where you can earn perks like free breakfast for two, a $$100 hotel credit, upgrades, late checkout, and more when you book two nights or more through the Chase site.

And if you're a Sari Card member, you can get a statement credit for using your Sari Card to make a reservation, which can be up to $250 for each half of the year, or up to $500 for a full year if you split the year into two halves.

This is the case with the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, which is $329 for a one-night stay and $717 for a two-night stay, and you get $250 back.

3. Nice to have, but ambiguous benefits

The following benefits are great if you use them well,

  • Benefits that you can't use if you don't live in your neighborhood ($300 dining credit)
  • Heavily personalized perks (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Peloton)
  • Benefits that require a lot of effort each month to find and eat (DoorDash; Lyft)

and more, organized in a table.

These benefits are so region-specific that if you're a typical cardmember, you'll probably feel more comfortable assuming they don't exist outside of Apple TV+ and Apple Music.

Of course, if you can find and use each and every one of them, you can dramatically lower your annual fee.

4. great for big spenders

The trend with cards these days is to prioritize big spenders.

This trend is clearly reflected in this Sari card revamp.

That is, the benefits you get if you spend more than $75,000 a year on a calendar year basis are decent.

I think it's a good deal if you're a big spender and can squeeze it all onto one card.

5. Things to keep in mind

There is one caveat to this offer.

The catch is that the $500 credit you get as a signup bonus is a one-time use, and if you redeem it for a $500 or less travel deal, you'll lose the rest.

In the terms and conditions, it says "The promotional credit is valid for a one-time use only, if you apply the promotional credit to a transaction less than $500, you will forfeit the remaining balance".

I think this is something to keep in mind.

6. Eligibility requirements to apply for the card

Finally, there are eligibility requirements to apply for the card.

This is important.

1) Remove concurrent ownership restrictions

First, we've removed the restriction on simultaneous Sapphire card holdings.

Previously, if you had the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you couldn't have the Sapphire Card, so you had to give up one of the two cards.

With this rule change, it is now possible to hold both the Sharp and Sari cards.

2) Have a Sharp card for the signup bonus, but not apply for the Sari card

The ability to hold concurrently does not mean that you can hold the Sharp Card and receive the sign-up bonus on the Sari Card.

In the terms, it says "The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you currently have open any other personal Sapphire cards...".

So, if you currently have the Sharp card, I believe you can apply for the Sari card after downgrading to a card like the Freedom (it should pop up if you apply while you have it).

3) Introduce a "once in a lifetime" rule

The old 48-month rule was long, but it means Chase has officially opened the door to new sign-up bonuses.

That door was closed this time around with the introduction of the "once in a lifetime" rule.

In the terms and conditions, it says "The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you currently have any other personal Sapphire cards open, previously held this card or received a new cardmember bonus for this card"It says

It says that those who have had a Sari card in the past or received a signup bonus may not be eligible for the new member bonus.

The wording used is "may not be available" rather than "are not available," which leaves some wiggle room, but we'll have to wait and see if existing Sari cardholders or those who previously received the signup bonus will receive a new one.

To summarize,

  • If you've never had a Sari card before and don't currently have any other Sapphire family cards, I think you're good to go..
  • I've never had a Sari card, but if you currently have a Sharp card, I think you can downgrade it to a Freedom family card and apply.
  • For those of you who have had Sari cards in the past, I think you need to look at the situation.

5/24 is an unofficial rule, so it's not listed in the terms, but it's safe to assume it applies.

Let's wrap up today's post.

The Sari Card's major makeover was a disappointment for existing members, as the "once in a lifetime" rule was introduced.

However, it may be a good deal for those who have never had a Sari card before, so it's worth reading the offer details carefully.

  • I have a question about hotel credits.

For example, if I plan a 4-night trip in May next year (2026), and I book 2 nights on December 31, 2025 (second half of the year) and the remaining 2 nights on January 1, 2026 (first half of the year), can I book all 4 nights for next year's trip and get the $500 credit?

Or do I have to stay between June-December 2025 for the second half of 2025 credit and January-June 2026 for the first half of 2026 credit to get the $500 credit?

  • Thanks for the good summary.
I got lucky (?) and got billed for my second year of sari before they revamped it.
I was originally going to keep it as a lifetime card, but the annual fee has gone up so much that I'm not sure I'll keep it next year.
There's also the P2 AU card, but that's a lot more expensive.

    Reply
    • You're right. If you're a good steward of your benefits, the annual fee is worth it, but if you're not, I think most people will find it hard to hold on to it for the long haul.

P2 has a sari and I have a sharp, but I've been applying for a sharp down, applying for a sari, and looking for various benefits every month... (I've already made a dense benefits table with the front and back for other cards such as Amex cards, and I'm writing it on the refrigerator while erasing it...) I'm hesitating a lot. As a wearer, it's hard to turn away from these sign-up bonuses, and it's hard to apply for them... How long will this sign-up bonus be maintained? I need to think about it.

Thanks for the neat organization, Mamo~!

    • The sign-up bonus makes the first year worth it, but I think you'll have to keep an eye on your travel and spending patterns to see if you want to keep it long term.

  • "It used to be $450 a year."
This is the old Annual Fee, and then it went up to $550, and now it's $795.

    Reply
    • When you compare the signup bonus up to 100,000, I think you mean the increase in various credits from $450 in the past and $795 now. The increase from $550 to $795 is not points,

If I stay at a hotel on June 30 and July 1, will it be considered the second half of the first half and deducted $500 each...?

    Reply
    • Wow genius idea!! Wouldn't that require checking out 6/30 and checking back in 7/1?

      Reply
    • In the terms, it says "Qualifying purchases are when you or an authorized user of the account use the card for pre-paid "Pay Now" stays of 2 nights or more".

So my understanding is that it's based on the hotel booking date, not the actual stay, so it wouldn't make sense to book over 6/30, 7/1.

I have a question about StubHub credits, if I create a new card, will I get credit if I spend it now in 1Q25? Does the activation requirement mean I can just activate the card?

    Reply
    • 1. the terms say "One-time activation required on chase.comOpens in new window or the Chase Mobile® app".

I'm guessing it's something like signing up for an Amex offer, where you pre-register and then use the card on the Stubhub site.

  • Will the sign up $500 chase travel credit that I get for this event be used differently than the edit credit that I get in 6 months? I booked somewhere for 2 nights for about $600 and I'm worried that the 6 month edit credit of $250 and the sign up $350 (I understood that the unused part of $500 will just fly) will be deducted.

    • That's an important question and I'm not sure exactly how this works ;);

However, the $500 promotional credit is part of the signup bonus, so you'll need to reach $5,000 to get it, so it's probably best to book The edit before you reach $5,000.

    • 1. Given the annual fee, it may not make financial sense for both of you to have a card.

      2. for existing members, points earned through 10/26 this year are guaranteed to be worth 1.5 points until 10/26/2027. However, this only seems to apply if you keep the card, not if you combine it with your spouse's account.

Points earned prior to October 26, 2025, by Sapphire Reserve cardmembers who applied prior to June 23, 2025, can be redeemed at 1.5x on Chase Travel until October 26, 2027. For points earned prior to October 26, 2025, cardmembers will automatically receive the best offer available, whether it's Points Boost or 1.5x on Chase Travel, maximizing rewards value for two years.

  • I'm currently at 5/24, opened the Sari in 2016 (don't have it now), opened the Sharp in April 2021 and have owned it ever since. I have about 70k chase UR left and would like to try the Sari again (based on the reviews I received on 5/24), but if I downgrade the Sharp with 70k left, will I lose the points? Or will I be left with points that I can cash out? Would it be better to transfer the 70k points to a hotel or airline?

    Reply
    • Downgrading means you're downgrading to Freedom, right? In that case, you'll keep your points.

However, the concern is that you've had a Sari card before, and while you may be approved, it's worth remembering that it's basically a "once in a lifetime" deal.

In my case, I had the sari as an upload, so I never received the bonus, but I wonder if it will pop up when I create a sari.

    • For existing Sari members, points earned through 10/26 this year are guaranteed 1.5 points for Chase Travel redemptions through 10/25/2027. I'm not sure if this also applies to combining with ink etc though ;);

The same is true for Sapphire 1.25, where existing members can earn points through 10/26 this year that are guaranteed to be worth 1.25 cents on Chase Travel through 10/25/2027.

  • Hello, I've been using the information you post since I came to the U.S. last year.
I was lamenting the fact that I missed out on the 100,000 Sharp points last time, so I applied for the card after seeing the Shari info you posted and am enjoying it.

However, there are a few questions I wanted to ask you just in case.
    1. for the spanning offer, it says it pops up but it doesn't, and when I look it up in the app, it doesn't show up either. do I need to contact my bank to see if this is an offer?
    2. How does the Chase Travel offer of $300 apply? For example, if I pay for a plane ticket for $500, does the $300 come out as a discounted $200 or does it show as $500 and then apply as $200 when billed?

And we'd appreciate it if you could add us to your signup list

    Reply
    • Both are resolved.
      1. is only visible in the app when swiping down
      2. it didn't take effect right away, but after 2-3 days

      Reply
    • 1. to be sure, you may want to send a secure message to Chase.

      2. for the $300 travel annual credit, you don't have to buy it from chase travel, just buy a $500 ticket on the airline's site, charge $500, and the $300 will come back to you as a statement credit.

      3. added.

  • Is that $500 promo credit a coupon or something?
Or is it just a pay chase travel, get reimbursed structure?
In one of the replies above, Mamo said that the $500 is given when the spandex is full, so I'm very curious about the benefits.

    • There are different views on this, but I haven't seen a definitive answer yet. If anyone knows, I'd be grateful for examples.

      • I know that once it's filled, you get an email saying you've been issued a travel credit (?) and then it shows up on the Chase travel portal. I wish it was a statement credit that you get back when you pay. I guess you could say it's a coupon of sorts that can only be used on the travel portal!

  • You have an existing saff, you don't have a sari.
I'm currently stuck in the 48 month sap and can't make it, but if it's changed to 1 lifetime, will I be rewarded because it overrides the existing 48 month rule?

I applied for Sari at the end of June and it was instantly rejected(?) so I thought it was not working but today I got a mail at home saying it was rejected??? So I closed my current sapph and will try to apply for sari next week or so!! I don't think I have a case for anyone who received the mail, so I'm leaving a comment. I'd like to ask you to put me on the list.

I'm looking hard right now, and I'm pretty sure I've been using Sharp for over 48 months and downgraded to
I applied for Shari a few days later and they said no because I have too many credits.

I've had a total of 8 credit cards in 8 years and I don't understand why it says I have too much credit.

    Reply
    • The 48-month threshold went away with this new card, and I understand that the high credit is also a message that Chase gives you if your credit line is too high.

I think you could try calling the Chase reconsideration line and ask for approval, perhaps by pulling the limit from an existing Chase card.

I received the 2014 Shari bonus and have been using Shari as my primary ever since. I downgraded my Shari to Freedom on the morning of July 22, thanks to Mamo's as always friendly, detailed, and pin-pointed guidance. I was honest with my rep about the reason for the downgrade (to get the bonus) and he told me to apply for Shari two days later. So, I applied on the afternoon of July 24. I was worried about the pop-up jail, but it went through without a hitch. I received the approval email around 9am on July 25. Here's my experience.

      • I called last week to downgrade from the sharp to the freedom and I told them I was trying to get the bonus with the sharp and the rep said there is nothing set in stone but they usually pull my credit report on the 23rd of the month and if I don't have the sapphire card at that time, I might get the bonus? So I'm wondering if I should wait until the 23rd?

        • This is the first I've heard of this. I'm sure there are individual differences, but my understanding is that you usually have to wait 3-4 days.

  • I opened the sari in 2016 and used it well throughout the year, and my anniversary is renewing on 10/1/25 at $550, but the new benefit starts on 10/26/25. But I booked The Edit hotel on Chase Travel for 10/26/10 for check-in and 10/29/10 for check-out, and that's the one hotel I originally booked to use the sari $100 hotel credit, so can I still get the $250 credit? I prefunded the entire reservation and it's refundable.

And my sari is closing for the last time this year, and I'm wondering if I should refer my husband tomorrow to get it, because then I'll get the welcome offer, but all the other benefits will be stacked and it'll be a waste since we travel a lot.

Mamo, please add me to the list of members. Many thanks.

    • 1. for The Edit credit, it's my understanding that you have to prepaid for the reservation and therefore the offer applies at the time of booking. So I guess it's not applicable to pre-booked reservations, or you have to make a new reservation after 10/26.

  • Hi MileMom, I just opened the Sari and received a $500 credit + 100,000 points for spending. One question I have is that if I book a 2-night hotel through The Edits, it will cost about $1,000, so with the $500 credit from the promotion and the $250 from the Sari card ($250 first half + $250 second half), will I end up paying only $250? Also, will the $300 travel credit be used for this, but I haven't made the payment yet! If you know anything about this, please comment.

Mamo, and I'd love to be added to the list for signup notifications 🙂 Thank you as always! I've been using your information for 10 years in the US and have been traveling well since I was a poor student lol.

    • 1. the $500 credit can be checked for redemption like a coupon. For the $250, it seems that it is automatically applied when the payment is made in cash over $250 instead of points. Looking at the example you gave, it is a cash payment of $1,000 - $500 = $500. Perhaps the $300 travel credit will be applied automatically afterwards. I think it's great to be able to use the credit early, so why would you hesitate to use it?

If I downgraded to sapphire freedom now and apply for sari, can I get the 125k bonus and use the 1.5 points I've accumulated?

    Reply
    • 1. you need to hold the card for at least 1 year to downgrade it, so I understand you can't downgrade it now.

      2. Furthermore, it is unclear if the sari application will be approved, and I understand that redeeming existing points for 1.5 is only available to existing sari cardholders.

For now, it's probably a good idea to keep things the way they are.
