The first card promotion of the new year 2025 has been announced.

It's the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, one of Chase's hotel cards.

Back in 2023, we've covered this card as a “must-have for business owners with high spending power.” However, in early 2024, the Hyatt program itself underwent a major change, and the unlimited Guest of Honor feature for Hyatt’s highest-tier Globalist members was eliminated. So it’s time to go over the details.

In today's post, we've summarized the highlights of the offer, the best uses for the card, and the potential downsides of the card.

1. Signup bonus

The best part of this offer is the signup bonus.

  •  You'll get 60,000 Hyatt points after spending $5,000 within 3 months.
  • In addition, if you spend $15,000 in total within 6 months, you'll receive 1 Free Night Award, redeemable for one night's stay at a Category 1-4 star hotel.

This Free Night Award is valid for one (1) night in any available standard room within 12 months from issuance. Because you can use this certificate for a standard room in the Category 1-4 (regardless of low, medium, or high season), you can consider this certificate worth at least 12,000 and up to 18,000 points.

So, in total, you're looking at a signup bonus of about 75,000 points.

If you'd like to think in terms of cash value, it would be around $1,000 (even after considering the mandatory annual fee), assuming that each Hyatt point is worth at least 1.5 cents.

If you use these points at a luxury property with a better redemption ration, you can even use these 75,000 points at the range of $2,000 to $3,000.

2. Basic Features

The card has some interesting out-of-the-box features.

1) Earn two $50 Annual Hyatt Credit (up to $100) when you use your card at Hyatt

You can get up to $50 statement credit at a time and up to two times per year (i.e., up to $100) when you use this card at a Hyatt property (The reference to "Annual" is to the anniversary year).

The terms don't necessarily say you have to stay at a hotel, but you can also use it at restaurants affiliated with the hotel, so if you're a frequent Hyatt guest, it shouldn't be too hard to get the $100 statement credit.

2) 10% Bonus Point Redemption Bonus

This card is a business card, and as will be explained later, it's optimized for business owners who spend quite a bit on their cards.

This specific feature of 10% Bonus Point Redemption Bonus is an important benefit for those business owners.

The basic concept is this: if you spend $50,000 in a calendar year on your Hyatt Business card, you'll get 10% of Hyatt points back in the form of a rebate during the remainder of that calendar year.

10% Redemption Bonus is not unlimited, though, with a maximum spending limit of 200,000 points per year. In other words, you can get up to 20,000 points back per calendar year.

If you value Hyatt points at 1.5 cents, that's roughly $300 a year, assuming you get all 20,000 points back.

3) Achieve elite status based on card spend alone: 5 QN per $10,000 spent

This card gives you 5 qualifying nights per $10,000 in spending (in addition to earning Hyatt points for every dollar you spend), which is why it's a great card for achieving Hyatt elite status.

If you're unfamiliar with the concept of valid nights, let's start with a brief explanation.

Qualifying nights (QN) are the nights you receive for paid or points stays at Hyatt properties.

  • A one-night hotel stay counts as 1 QN.
  • This QN counts is used to determine elite status in the World of Hyatt program, Hyatt's frequent flyer program.
  • It is also used as the basis for Hyatt Milestones, a tiered benefit program.

For example, you'd need 60 QNs a year for Globalist status, which includes a guaranteed breakfast, free valet parking with points stays, and a suite upgrade if space is available, which you can see in the image below.

How to achieve 60 QN? If you don't use Hyatt-affiliated credit card, you would need to stay 60 nights at Hyatt properties in a year to achieve Globalist status.

멤버십 레벨과 자격을 보여주는 표. 레벨에는 Member, Discoverist(10박 또는 25,000포인트), Explorist(30박 또는 50,000포인트), Globalist(60박 또는 100,000포인트), Lifetime Globalist(1,000,000평생포인트)가 있습니다.

However, if you have this Hyatt Business card, you will receive 5 qualifying nights for every $10,000 spent on the card.

It's because Hyatt does not distinguish QN from hotel stay and QN from credit card spend.

Therefore,

  • When you spend $10,000 on the card, you will get 5 QNs, which is equal to 5 QNs from a 5-night stay at a Hyatt-affiliated hotel.
  • If you spend $50,000, you get 25 QNs, which is equivalent to 25 hotel nights.
  • 100K spent is 50 QN, right?
  • This would mean that if you use $120,000 in a calendar year, you would automatically achieve the globalist status.

To put it differently, you can achieve Hyatt's highest elite status without ever staying at a hotel.

3. Best-use case: Business owners who spend a lot on their cards

Earning QNs is also the basis for Milestones, which, as mentioned earlier, are tiered bonus program.

This means that as you build up your QNs based on how much you spend on your card, you'll also automatically receive a prize for each threshold you achieve.

Here is a table that shows benefits for each threshold.

Let's see together:

Automatic benefits Select one
20 QN
  • 2,000 points on your next stay
  • 2 Club Access Awards
  • $25 FIND Experience Credit
  • 2 AA Preferred Seat coupons
30 QN 1 (One) Cat 1-4 Free Night Award Select one from the list above (20 QN)
40 QN 1 (One) Guest of Honor (GOH) Award
  • 5,000 points
  • 1 (One) Suite Upgrade Award (SUA)
  • $150 FIND Experience Credit
  • 2 AA Main Cabin Extra Seat coupons
50 QN
  • 5,000 points
  • 2 (Two) SUA
  • $150 FIND Experience Credit
  • 2 AA Main Cabin Extra Seat coupons
60 QN
  • 2 (Two) GOH Awards
  • 1 (One) Cat 1-7 Free Night Award
  • 2 (Two) SUA
  • My Hyatt Concierge
70, 80, 90 QN (every 10 nights each) 1 (One) GOH Award
  • 10,000 points
  • 1 (One) SUA
  • $300 FIND Experience Credit
  • AA Gold Elite
100 QN 1 (One) Cat 1-7 Free Night Award
  • 10,000 points
  • 1 (One) SUA
  • Miraval Extra Night Award
  • AA Platinum Elite
110, 120, 130, 140 QN (every 10 nights each) 1 (One) GOH Award Select one from the list above (100 QN)
150 QN Ultimate Free Night Award Select one from the list above (100 QN)

The chart shows up to 150 QN per year, but I think that's only for business owners who have almost unlimited spending on their cards.

If you don't have a lot of business spending, I think even reaching 60 QNs with only $120,000 in card spend would be quite daunting.

Anyway, if you set your goal to achieve Globalist and hit 60 nights QN?

Then, you'll receive all of the Milestone Awards you're eligible for up to 60 nights.

In other words, assuming you spend $120,000 on Hyatt business cards without staying a single night in a hotel, in addition to achieving Globalist, you would earn, for example (depending on your preference),

  • 60,000 Hyatt points (as a card sign-up bonus)
  • Earn at least 120,000 Hyatt points based on card spend
  • 1 (One) Cat 1-4 Free Night Award after spending $15,000
  • 4 (Four) Club Access Awards (each valid for up to 7 consecutive nights)
  • 5 (Five) Suite Upgrade Award (valid for up to 7 consecutive nights per award)
  • 3 Guest of Honor Award (valid for up to 7 consecutive nights per award)
  • 1 (One) Cat 1-4 Free Night Award (up to 18,000 points value)
  • 1 (One) Cat 1-7 Free Night Award (up to 35,000 points value)
  • And you'll have access to My Hyatt Concierge, your personal assistant for your Hyatt stay.

Roughly speaking, that's 230,000 to 240,000 Hyatt points, which can easily fetch up $3-4,000 value.

In addition, the Club Access Award, Suite Upgrade Award, Guest of Honor Award, and Cat 1-4 and Cat 1-7 Free Night Awards mentioned above are all transferable online to third parties, such as family members.

So, if you're a business owner with a lot of card spend,

  • and, you're too busy to travel with your family,
  • you have no time to waste in calling a hotel representative
  • But, wants to give a nice opportunity to stay at a fancy hotel to family, relatives, and friends

Then, this card can be a great option for you.

4. The beginning of the year is the best time to get this card

If you're looking to achieve a Globalist tier with card spend, the beginning of the year is the perfect time to do it.

If you're familiar with the Southwest Companion Pass, it's basically the same thing.

Let me explain.

The qualification period for Hyatt Globalist is 1/1-12/31 each year. On January 1, the QN resets to 0 for a new year.

In other words, you can't combine 30 QNs in the second half of 2024 and 30 QNs in the first half of 2025 to make 60 QNs. You must hit 60 QNs between 1/1-12/31.

Now, once you reach 60 QNs in a year and become a Globalist, your status is valid for:

  • The remainder of the calendar year
  • Plus, the entirely of the following calendar year
  • Then, is valid by the end of February of the following year.

In other words, when to achieve your status make a big difference.

For example,

  • If you achieve it on December 1, 2024, you'll get one month in December of '24, 12 months in '25, and two months in '26, for a total of 15 months of benefits.
  • If you achieve on March 1, 2025, you would enjoy the benefit for 10 months in year 25, 12 months in year 26, and 2 months in year 27, for a total of 24 months.

That's why I'd say it's best to do it as close to the beginning of the year as possible to maximize your benefits.

To put it differently, there's never been a better time to achieve the 2025 Globalist, right now.

You can take this a step further and use Hyatt card to achieve Globalist every other year.

To keep your Globalist status, you don't have to spend $120,000 every year.

  • Spend $120,000 in early 2025 to achieve Hyatt Globalist status and enjoy the benefits through February 2027.
  • Two years later, if you spend $120,000 in January-February 2027, you'll achieve Globalist again and enjoy the benefits until February 2029.

Of course, one caveat here is that Hyatt's program remains intact in the next several years.

5. Potential downsides of the Hyatt Business Card

The Hyatt Business Card does have its downsides, of course. I can think of three main ones.

1) Annual fee ($199)

First up is the annual fee.

The annual fee is $199, with no introductory offer.

It's rather high, but as mentioned earlier, you can get up to $100 credits ($50 each, twice a year). This would bring the actual annual fee down to $99.

2) No Free Night Award

It's common for hotel-affiliated credit cards to come with an annual free night, but the Hyatt Business Card unfortunately doesn't have an annual free night award.

The Hyatt personal card comes with Free Night Award (Cat 1-4) every cardmember anniversary, which can really help pay off the annual fee. In comparison, I have to say this is a bit of a bummer.

3) No Free World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Night Credits

Holders of Hyatt personal cards automatically receive 5 QNs at the beginning of each year just for having the card.

For business cards, there is no such automatic QN.

You might be thinking, "So isn't the personal card better for achieving Globalist status?"

Unfortunately, personal cards earn QNs at a lesser rate based on card spend.

  • The personal card earns 2 QNs per $5,000, which is 4 QNs per $10,000. To put it in perspective, you'd need to spend $140,000 to reach the Globalist just from card spend (even accounting for the 5 QNs you automatically get).
  • The business card is 5 QNs per $10,000, so that's $120,000 as I explained earlier.

The most effective way to do this is to combine business and personal cards at the same time, so if that works better for you, I think that's fine.

As a reminder, the Personal Card is also currently running an offer with a 5,000 point higher signup bonus than usual.

Let's wrap up today's post.

It seems to be a trend with airlines and hotels these days to prioritize customers who use their frequent flyer cards.

If you're a frequent card user, you're likely to see significant benefits depending on how you strategize your spending.

This is the case with the Hyatt Business Card, which we talked about today.

However, this card isn't the right choice for everyone.

For those who don't care about Hyatt status, and are more likely to stay at a hotel once or twice a year, I think the the welcome should be your top priority. In that regard, I think the Chase Ink credit cards might be a better choice (even if it's not currently on promotion).

In short, it's probably a good idea to check out your options thoroughly.

  • I currently own the Chase Ink Preferred Business card and have had it for about 2 years, and I've accumulated a lot of points including the welcome bonus, but I don't have much use for it. Also, I opened my personal Hyatt card last year, so I use Hyatt for my personal credit card. This time I'm thinking of transferring from Chase Ink Preferred Business to Hyatt Business because the Hyatt Business card has a good offer, but what do you think~~? Is it a good transfer? By the way, I love to travel!

    Reply
    • In this case, you won't be able to convert/transfer the product, and even if you could, you'll have to think of it as a new card application because you won't receive the sign-up bonus.

If you're a frequent Hyatt traveler, I think it's a good option to have a personal + business account, but it's a personal choice, so you'll have to decide if it's right for you.

  • I'm sorry I'm late, but I hope you and your family are doing well. I didn't try very hard, but thanks to the wear and tear, I've been able to do business, see Hawaii, and enrich my life~ Thank you again. I need Hyatt points, and I want to be a globalist, so I was thinking of making a Hyatt card. I can make a business card, but I'm not active, and I don't think I'll be able to reach my globalist goal with this business card. I don't think I'll be able to get anywhere near $12k, so is it worth it? The personal card is supposed to give you 30,000 and if you get 6,000, you have to spend 15,000....So the personal card deal doesn't seem good, and it's the moment when you want to make it and then think about it...

    • If you're deciding between the personal and business cards, I don't think the business card is a bad choice, but if status isn't a big factor and you're just looking for absolute Hyatt points, you might be better off with an Ink business hotel.

        • Chase has a 1/30 rule, which is "if the second card you apply for in 30 days is a business card, you're rejected" and "if you've already opened one Chase card [personal or business] within 30 days, you're rejected for the next business card you apply for." I'm guessing that if you open the Hyatt Business card this time, you'll have to wait 30 days before you can apply for the UA Business card.
