For Beginners: US-Hawaii Roundtrip for a Family of 4 for 100,000 Korean Air Miles

With the discontinuation of Chase's partnership with Korean Air, UR points will no longer transfer to Korean Air.

The only worthwhile conversion options now are United, British Airways, and Hyatt hotel points.

Update (7/23/2017)

I've been seeing a lot of cases lately where a search is available on Delta's site for 22,500 miles one way, but not on Korean Air's site. Fortunately, a call to Korean Air has been known to result in search and ticketing, so if you can see it on Delta but not on Korean Air, it's worth a call to Korean Air.

==============================

We're excited to announce the launch of Sandler had some big news for us at the end of the year. Search and ticket Skyteam Mileage tickets on Korean Air's online siteThe good news is that it's gone.

This enhancement is part of the Introduced the ability to book multi-destination itineraries online early last yearThis is a very positive change that dramatically improves the convenience of redeeming Korean Air miles.

The ability to search and book SkyTeam Miles tickets online is a great feature for Magicians everywhere, but I'd say it's especially helpful for Magicians in the U.S., as it allows you to book flights between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii, which was previously only available by phone or online chat (and quite cumbersome).

In today's post, we'll use the Details on how to fly from the mainland US to Hawaii on Delta using Korean Air miles.for you.

1. redeem Korean Air miles for a honey route: US Mainland (East) - Hawaii

First, I'd like to give you a quick background on why Korean Air miles are the best option for ticketing between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii. There have been a couple of important changes.

1) Change Korean Air's regional division

In September 2014, Korean Air updated its Skyteam ticketing charts and changed its regional divisions, with one of the most significant changes being that Hawaii, which had been lumped into the "Mexico, Hawaii, Central America" region, was consolidated into North America.

ke-na

This resulted in the loss of a honey route from Hawaii to Central America for 30,000 miles roundtrip, but a new honey route from the US mainland to Hawaii. As detailed in a previous post, the I could fly from the mainland US to Hawaii and back for 25,000 miles.

ke-dl

Neat, clear, and organized by @julpurgeThere is no airline that can do a roundtrip US mainland - Hawaii for 25,000 miles as you did.

Sure, if you live in the West, you can use BA miles to fly Alaska or AA nonstop for 12,500 miles each way, but that's literally only for nonstop flights in the West, so it's not a deal for people in the central or eastern US.

2) Delta Air Lines Mileage Seating Situation is a Tricky Thing These Days

As you can see, 25,000 Korean Air miles roundtrip from the US East Coast to Hawaii is a very good deal, but not as good as I thought it would be.

The reason is that Delta, Korean Air's North American Skyteam partner, hasn't released many mileage seats. As you may know, Korean Air doesn't fly directly on the US mainland-Hawaii route, so Skyteam ticketing requires you to fly on a Delta Air Lines flight. However, Delta mileage seats have been hard to come by for the past few years, to the point where Delta miles are almost worthless.

But I've been hearing a lot of talk lately about how Delta has changed. Maybe it's because AA, Delta's main competitor, is such a douchebag, but there are actually quite a few mileage seats available.

The screen below is a search for New York JFK - Honolulu nonstop, 4 people. As you can see, there are quite a few dates in mid-March with seats available for as low as 22,500 miles.

dl-4

If you're okay with one change in West LA or elsewhere, there are even more days where 4-digits are possible. As you can see below, almost any day is possible.

dl-connecting

Some of you may be wondering, "Why is the lowest fare in that image 22,500 miles one-way when you said 25,000 miles roundtrip?" I'll explain more later, but that mileage deduction is for flying Delta with Delta miles.

If you book a Delta flight with Korean Air miles, you can book a 22,500 mile one-way flight for 25,000 miles roundtrip. When the most basic concept of ticketing training - the difference between an operating carrier vs. a ticketing carrier - becomes clearin the following example.

Okay, that was a long introduction, now let's get down to the nitty gritty of how to search for seats.

2. Start your seat search on the Delta site.

We recommend checking for Delta Miles seats on the Delta site first.

"Why do I have to search on Delta when the whole point of this update is to be able to search and ticket on Korean Air's site?" you may ask.

This is because the Korean Air site requires you to date each day to see when seats are available, whereas the Delta site allows you to search in five-week increments.

How to search for seats on the Delta siteWe've explained this once before, and we'll do it again, assuming a family of four is traveling from New York to Hawaii in late August. (June and July are already booked up because they're so busy ;))

1) Go to Delta's main site and type in One-way, and then select your origin, destination, departure date, flexible days, use miles, 4 people, and then hit Find Flights.

d-1

2) The week of August 22 has some seats available, if you don't see any, you can select 5 weeks to broaden your search.

d-2

3) One thing to note here is that sometimes when searching on Delta's site, Alaska flights (Delta's US partner) are also listed. Since Korean Air and Alaska are partners, you can use Korean Air miles to fly on Alaska flights, but it's my understanding that you can't mix Delta and Alaska flights when using Korean Air miles.

That's why we recommend checking the Delta Only box on the search screen.

D-delta-only

4) Now, let's press the date August 22nd. We see that there are several flights available. Out of these multiple flights, only the one that costs 22,500 miles can be booked with Korean Air milesfor a flight. Flights with 37,500 miles, 32,500 miles, etc. are not ticketable, so it's important to keep that in mind when searching.

Or, if you're on your way to Hawaii and want to make a stopover in the Midwest or West along the way, you can use the If you search separately for an itinerary within the continental U.S., for example, New York to Los Angeles, only seats that search for 12,500 miles each way can be booked with Korean Air miles.in the file. Keep this in mind.

d-3

5) I did a search for outbound, so why not do a search for return? I did the same thing, checked Delta only, and searched about a week out, and found availability on August 28, 29, and 30.

D-return

6) I hit August 28 and there are a few possible options for 22,500 miles.

dl-5

3. Now let's move on to the Korean Air site.

How to search for mileage seats on Korean Air's siteWe've written about this before, and the method is the same.

1) On the Korean Air site, check Redeem Miles on the main screen.

k-1

2) You will then be prompted to sign in, please do so.

k-2

3) After signing in, select SkyTeam Bonus on the next screen.

k-3

4) On the changed screen, you'll need to enter your departure airport, arrival airport, and date. On Delta's site, you can enter NYC, but on Korean Air's site you'll need to specify JFK, LGA, EWR, etc.. Please note this.

k-4

5) Search for 4 passengers, and you'll see several possible combinations, which is great.

k-5

6) I combine my desired itinerary and hit Calculate Fare, and I get a roundtrip price of 100,000 miles + taxes for 4 people, which is $44.80. If I had used Delta miles, I would have needed 180,000 miles, but with Korean Air miles, I only needed 100,000 miles. Great.

k-6

7) Just to be safe, I changed the date to August 27, when Delta only has high mileage redemptions, and when I pressed it, I immediately got an error message.

k-7

4. some advantages + caveats

1) When you book a Delta ticket with Korean Air Miles, the rules for changes and cancellations will follow Korean Air's rules. Korean Air tends to have free ticket changes and cancellations, right? This is also the case for Skyteam tickets, so until July 2017, changes and cancellations are free, and from August, changes cost 30,000 won and cancellations cost 3,000 miles. For more information, visit Korean Air's siteDo it.

2) Another advantage is that That you can add a free stopover to your round-trip itineraryFor example, for the New York-Hawaii itinerary I gave you, if seats were available, you could fly New York-LA (stopover)-Hawaii-New York and so on. Solving a trip to the West + a trip to Hawaii at the same timeYou can also

3) As I mentioned earlier, you have to have a Delta mileage seat to redeem Korean Air miles, so if Delta starts blocking mileage seats, this could be a sticking point again. But in that case, I think you can just use Korean Air miles to go to Korea (and they have 10 years of mileage validity), so you can keep collecting them without too much worry.

4) On the downside, when booking Skyteam with Korean Air miles, you'll need to use Round-trip ticketing onlyis that it's a one-way ticket. This is a bit of a bummer considering that Asiana Mileage Stars tickets are one-way.

Let's wrap up today's post.

I've heard it gets tighter and tighter to collect and redeem miles, but it doesn't always seem to get worse. I hope everyone can take advantage of these deals while they're still available 🙂 .

    Oh! Am I number one?!!!
I've been trying to get them to use this honey route, but they say it's hard to use because their family schedule is only in June... They use it to pay for their UAL account balance and it hurts so much... Even if I give them the honey information, they can't get it all....

I've been reading Mama's Hawaii a lot lately and this is a great post~ thank you so much.
I have one question: You said that Korean Air miles are valid for 10 years, but if I ticket and then cancel, are they still valid for 10 years?
I'm also looking at UA flights to Singapore Airlines because I want to book on Korean Air, but the dates are a little different from what I want, so I can book on Korean Air and then cancel when UA has the dates I want, but I'm wondering what happens to my miles if I do that.
Thank you so much for the great information.

    • Answer. It is my understanding that Korean Air miles are valid for 10 years from the date of earning. I don't think they extend the entire time with activity like US airlines do.

When I look at West to East tickets, are the seats that show up for 22500 Delta miles still bookable?
I thought I could only book seats that showed up for 12500 Delta miles.
I only booked on the days that those seats were available.
Is the seat that shows up for 22500 miles only an option when booking East to Hawaii?
Is it correct that a West to East stopover can only book seats that show up for 12500 Delta miles?
    Thank you !

    • For Delta, 12,500 miles is the lowest mileage redemption for domestic US, and 22,500 miles is the lowest redemption for Hawaii, so domestic US itineraries like West and East will only be able to book seats that search for 12,500 miles each way.

Mamo, thank you for always making things so easy and understandable!
If I'd known, I would have used Danforth miles to go to Hawaii this summer.
I booked it with BA miles, but the return flight from Hawaii was one stop, so it cost 40,000 miles for 2 people -_- (I forgot that nonstop is 25K), so it cost 65,000 for 2 people roundtrip instead of 50,000.

Should I cancel my BA ticket and rebook my ticket to Danang (I have a ticket)...
But since DanGong miles are more you(?), I think it's better to pay a little more and go for BA miles.

    Reply
    • Korean Air only allows round-trip tickets. BA miles don't have much in the way of change fees, so it's probably worth keeping an eye out for nonstop seats on the return flight and changing if you find them.

I forgot that it's 12.5k instead of non-stop, so I booked it in a hurry and then realized it was 20,000 miles one way... I'm so confused... ㅠㅠ
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that non-stop pops up before I go.

    • Yeah. I think you're going to have to wait a little bit longer, and I'll have to experiment more, but it seems like rooting is a maximum of two stops per way, and I'm guessing the date change has something to do with it.

You'll need to call Korean Air and book it on an Alaska flight, which will cost 30,000 miles roundtrip, and you'll need to make sure the route is configured with Alaska flights only.

    • 1. Yes. For Skyteam ticketing, you can't combine families, you have to have all the miles in one account. If you have 25,000 miles in increments, you can ticket them separately. For example, if you have 50,000 on your account and 50,000 on your spouse's account, you'll need to issue two tickets.

      2. For a family of four, it's not easy. The number of miles seats changes several times a day, so it's worth checking when you have time.

I booked two roundtrip tickets in Prestige class for my in-laws from Korea for $90 tax only, which is $5500 per ticket if I converted it to money (it would have been $11,000 if I paid cash). I am so happy and grateful that my elderly parents-in-law can come to the US comfortably, and I just wanted to write to say thank you.

Also, can I use my Korean Air miles to book both tickets for me and my wife or do we have to do it separately on our own accounts? Currently I have a little over 40,000 Korean Air miles, 250,000 UR points and 40,000 SPG miles (50,000 Korean Air miles).

    Thank you in advance.

This time, I created a Korean Air account for my husband and completed the family registration.
I'm trying to transfer 75000 UR miles to my husband's account today.
They said the transfer didn't work... Can you tell me why? Isn't my MEMBER ID my Korean Air membership number? I don't know what's wrong?

    Reply
    • You are correct that you cannot directly transfer from your UR account to your husband's Korean Air account. You used to be able to transfer directly to your spouse's account, but in November 2015, the rules changed, so now you need to combine your UR account with your husband's UR account, and then transfer from your UR account to his UR account.

If your husband doesn't have a Dorrance card, you'll need to register him as an authorized user on your Dorrance card before proceeding, see the article below for more information.

If I only need to fly one way from LA to HNL, can I just buy a 22.500 mile ticket on Delta's site?

If I have 116,000 miles in Chase right now, do I need to transfer them to Korean Air, then Korean Air to Delta, and then Delta to Chase?

Or can I move from UR directly to delta?

    (This is so hard!)

    • 1. you can't transfer directly from UR to Delta, and you can't transfer from Korean Air to Delta. Once miles are credited to an airline, in most cases, that's it.

      2. if that doesn't work, I'd try to get a one-way ticket for 25,000 Korean Air miles, and if you have other miles, you might want to look into something like Flying Blue, where you can get a one-way ticket.

    • I did a search on 4/11 and the itinerary that has seats available for 22,500 is ORD-SLC-PDX-OGG, and the last PDX-OGG is an Alaska Airlines flight, so that's why you don't see it on Korean Air's site. If you look in the text, I explained that you need to check Delta only when searching on Delta's site, so you might want to double check that.

I'm here to ask for advice. I was planning to go to Hawaii this year and was excited to see your post. I was also excited to make a trial reservation, but since I'm not going alone, the confirmed schedule came out. At this time, there are no seats for 25000. There are seats when I go, but there is no schedule for me to come. T.T So the 25000 mile honey deal is not available this time. My question is...

So we have to buy tickets in different ways, and there are two of us... If we use up all the URs from New York to Hawaii, we can get Hawaiian roundtrip for about 150000, but is this a good deal? My husband wants to leave the URs alone (we'll get the Biz later when we go to Korea..) and buy them on the card, which would come out to about $1900. I'm in shock because I was expecting the two of us to go for 50000 miles...

  • Hi...I'm a newbie.
I'm going to Hawaii for a month-long business trip in early July and my son (13) wants to go with me. My company bought me a ticket through AA, and now I need to buy a ticket for him, but according to AA mileage, it's at least 100,000 miles roundtrip...almost a thousand dollars in cash. I'm not in a very tight financial situation right now, and I'd like to use some of the miles I've accumulated, but how can I buy the least expensive AA ticket?
Your origin is Kansas City and your destination is Honolulu. You have about 240,000 UR, 55,000 Delta, and 68,000 SPG miles.

Question 1. What is the cheapest way to buy AA tickets? Should I just shell out the 100,000 miles?
    2. basic question, but I would like to know how I can purchase my son's ticket with my miles.
(Transfer the miles I have to AA, search for miles on AA and buy them in my "son's" name -> I wonder if this is possible).

    Thank you. Kubuk

    Reply
    • 1. if you have UR, Delta, and SPG miles, SPG is the only one that can be converted to AA.

      2. If you transfer SPG to AA, you will be able to book a ticket in your son's name from your original account.

      3. but if you redeem 100,000 miles for a $1,000 ticket, I'd say that's not a good deal for miles.

      4. you mentioned only UR 24, do you have a Sari card? If you have a Sari card, you can redeem UR points for tickets that are worth 1.5 cents, so a $1,000 ticket would be worth 60-70,000 UR points. If you don't have a Sari card, but rather a Sharp card, it's a 1.25 cent rate, which isn't a great value.

        4. i have both sari card and sharp card now. I didn't realize I could buy UR points for 1.5 cents with the sari, but are you saying I can buy AA points with the sari? That would be great, thank you.

        Reply
        • You're wrong, you're not buying UR points for 1.5 cents with a sari, and it's not that you can buy AA points with a sari.

What I'm talking about is the

          1) Having the Sapphire card means that you can redeem UR points for travel, like airline tickets, at a value of 1.5 cents on the Chase site for travel bookings.

          2) This means that you can buy a $1,000 AA ticket on Chase's travel site by paying with UR points.

Hi Mamo, I've been lurking since signing up and this is my first time posting a question.
I've been accumulating points and not redeeming them properly, but when I saw your post about getting to Hawaii for cheap points, I thought it was a great deal.

    Family of 4 EWR->HNL (10/26/2017) / OGG->EWR (11/2/2017)
When I search for Delta only on Delta like this, I get the 1st stop of the 7:15am flight on 10/26 for 22,500 miles (all Delta), but when I search the way you suggested on Korean Air, I only get the 2 stops and 25+ hour flight.

It's weird, so I'm asking if I'm missing something because I've tried it on other days, and I've tried specifying the airport as JFK, but the routes I see on Delta are different than the ones I see on Korean Air's site. I don't think it's because of the Alaska Airlines thing you mentioned above. I call Korean Air and the agent says there are no flights available that day to book with points.

    Thank you as always.

So I put in the dates I had previously selected on Korean Air's website, and it said that there were seats available, and I could even buy a ticket with 100,000 miles. But you said in the description above that Korean Air won't ticket anything with high miles, so I'm asking again. I'm a beginner... In this case, even if I can buy a ticket with 100,000 miles for the itinerary I saw before, will it be a problem when I fly Delta later? Or is it possible that Delta has changed the miles, but Korean Air hasn't transferred them yet, so it shows that there are seats available, and I can ticket them now? If this is the case, I'd like to buy them sooner rather than later. Please advise. Thanks.

But, Mama, between me and my husband, we've been working hard on your post and we've come to the conclusion that we're going to have to do something about it.

UR 50,000 miles each (100,000 miles total)
      38000 SPG miles combined
      I have 60,000 Delta miles.

I'm worried that I won't have enough UR and SPG miles to use for the hotel because I can't use Delta miles to get a 50,000 mile roundtrip ticket for 2 people, so I'm going to spend more than UR 50,000 (5 nights planned). The Maui hotel, which I'm not sure if the miles have been de-valued a lot or not, is only 2 nights with UR 50,000. Still, is it better to use UR to increase the value of the miles, or to buy one ticket with Delta miles? (Delta miles cost 45000 miles) I think it's better not to use Delta miles this time, but to collect them and use them when I go to Korea. The world of miles is difficult the deeper I dig, so I'm looking for advice from a beginner who has been watching MileMoA and is about to break his head trying to do it myself. Thank you for always providing good information.

In my case, I booked LAX-SEA, SEA-HNL, OGG-LAX using the "chat service" at the bottom of the Korean Air website (canceling the original booking and booking a new route). I checked the available dates and times on the Delta homepage and asked the agent to confirm and book it right away. They were very nice and accommodating. Also, it looks like canceling/changing mileage tickets is only free until the end of July. From August, there seems to be a fee. Please note^^.

  • I tried to use miles for Hawaii for the first time, but Delta says that the sectors that come up in the search are not bookable on Korean Air. For example, I tried to fly from Chicago to Honolulu with a stopover in L.A. or Seattle, and then from Honolulu to Chicago, but there are also flights with a layover of 4 hours or less in the area of the layover between Honolulu and Chicago that are not bookable. When I asked in chat, I was told that there are some airplanes that depart in 4 hours and some that don't. I asked several times, but the answer was the same. Of course, it's the beginning of the year and the seats are not available, so I'm very curious about it from a beginner's point of view.^^

However, the lowest fare is 10,500 each way, which is 84,000 miles for a family of 4 using simple math.
The final Korean Air fare comes out to 140,000 miles + $600 (fees, etc.).
I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's different in Hawaii.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!!

    • 1. the Bahamas is classified as "Central America" in Korean Air's regional division, and a ticket from "North America" to "Central America", which includes the US, is 35,000 miles roundtrip economy. So 140,000 miles for 4 people is a valid mileage deduction.

      2. In this case, you're probably better off redeeming Delta miles rather than Korean Air miles.

  • Mamo, I'm searching for delta tickets from SJC to Hawaii next year. I see a lot of 19,000 mile itineraries one way, but not 22500. Is it possible that itineraries with 19,000 delta miles are not eligible for Korean Air miles? I can't find it on Korean Air.

    Reply
    • You're seeing a minimum of 19,000 miles? This must be a system glitch, as the minimum mileage deduction is known to be 22,500 miles.

    • It's from Chicago (ord) and the lowest price is 34k. I think it's like that all year round.

      • Hmmm. That's weird, because when I search for LA-Honolulu, 25,000 is the lowest I can find. I'll have to do some more digging to see if they've temporarily raised the mileage redemption (Delta doesn't have a mileage chart) or if it's just a blockage. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Hello~ I opened the Sari card after learning about Milemoa and now have about 130,000 points. My husband has similar points.
My goal was a trip to Hawaii for a family of four from New York City, and while there's no right or wrong time to do it, I'm now out of points.
As you mentioned, I started searching from Delta, but I can't find 25,000 points between now and August next year..lol
Could this be due to Delta not unseating?
We are looking at the end of August if possible.... If the 25,000 point seats don't come up at all, I'm looking at
What's the smartest way to spend points?
I realized that with my current 130,000 points, I could get a round trip for two if I bought directly from UR travel.
What would you do if you were Milemoa?
The downside is that we have a fixed date for our promotions, so the date is not flexible...
Any answers would be appreciated... Thanks!

    • 1. Delta doesn't seem to be releasing seats.

      2. if Delta isn't releasing seats, I don't think it's a good idea to spend UR like cash. If you can afford to get a card, I'd consider getting an Alaska partner card and using it for companion ticketing. You pay for one ticket and get another, and normally this would cost you $99 + tax for a companion ticket, but I understand that if you apply for the card by the end of 2017, you can get the companion ticket for $99 and no tax. If you do this, you'll get the sign up bonus as a sign up bonus, and I think you could get a round trip for a family of 4 for around $1,000-1,200. That's one possibility.

I've been saving up my miles for a trip to Hawaii when I get the chance, but now I'm stumped when it comes to ticketing... It's a little complicated because it's my first time. I've been searching for Delta, but I can't find any tickets.
    How to get there?

I have 320k on my Chase UR
I would like to add a family of 5, or even 3 more if possible.
I am scheduled to leave the second week of January.

1.New York - Honolulu - Las Vegas - New York (5 people or as many as possible)
    2. Korea - Honolulu - Las Vegas - Korea (2 people)

What to do and how to do it

    • 1. my Delta Mileage seats have been drying up in the last 2-3 weeks, I'll have to find out if this is just a temporary thing or if there is a big change.

      2. traveling to Hawaii with a family of 5 is not easy to begin with, especially when you have to go through a non-Delta hub like Las Vegas along the way. The limited time frame of the second week of January is also a constraint.

      3. If your itinerary and dates are fixed like that, I personally think you should consider paying for a ticket. UR 320,000 is 320,000 for Korean Air, which can be used for future trips to Korea.

  • Thanks for the answer, MileMom! Is the companion ticket for the Alaska card annualized or one-time? If it's annualized, you said you'll have to pay the companion ticket tax after this year, but if I open the card within the current year, will the no-tax still apply from then on?
And if I spend $30,000 on a signing bonus, can I still get a companion ticket?
I checked New York to Hawaii and there are no non-stops.
Do you happen to know which islands are cheap in which cities?
Sorry for the many questions.....^ㅡ;;;; and thank you!!!

    • 1. I know it comes out every year. I know you always pay taxes and you have to pay the $99 as part of the fare, but I don't have this $99 this year. See the terms and conditions at this link for more information. If your card is issued at a lower tier, you will not get this companion ticket benefit (Platinum Plus® Visa® cardholders do not qualify for this benefit).

      https://www.applyonlinenow.com/USCCapp/Ctl/entry?sc=VACTJ6&GV5=H|861|homepage#b

      2. I understand that the sign-up bonus and ticket purchase are not related. I know that spending $1000 for 3 months gets you a companion ticket, which comes into your online account in the form of a discount code and is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. The terms and conditions say it's round trip only, but from what I've read on the FT, it looks like it's one-way as well - AYOR, of course.

      3. for Hawaii from NYC, I don't think Alaska is non-stop, and you'd have to change in LA or Seattle anyway, so I think you'd have to search for multiple islands for your dates.

Again, I'd recommend reading the terms and conditions carefully before applying for the card, as I may be misunderstanding them.

This is true even when I look at all other dates. Could it be that this segment is not even in the 22500 or 25000 segment? That's why I can't find any tickets when I go to Korean Air and search for them, even if they are available at 35000 on the Delta site. ㅠ.ㅠ

    • Based on recent reports, it seems that there is a broken link between the seat information on Delta's site and the seats that Korean Air has access to. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but for dates that require more miles than 22,500 miles, Korean Air may still be able to ticket on Delta's site, so you may want to keep looking or get help from a Korean Air agent.

My family (5 people) just got tickets for LAX-HNL for 5 people from August 15-21, totaling 125000 miles. I don't see the tickets on Delta's website, but I happened to search for them on Korean Air's web and ticketed them. I didn't see any tickets until yesterday, and then all of a sudden today there are tons of tickets available. All of the dates I searched for had 10+ tickets released. See also.

Sari UR Points 260,000 Should I transfer them to Korean Air points or use them through UR Travel to get the best value?
I want to go on a honeymoon with Business Class with points, but it's not easy.
Do you have any recommendations other than Hawaii?

    • 1. You'll need to redeem URs for air miles to fly business or higher. The UR mall has a fixed value (1.25 cents or 1.5 cents with sarees), so it's not easy to meet the threshold for business ticketing.

The only exception to this is the US mainland-Hawaii sector, which is not easy to redeem for miles unless you pay cash for a business or higher ticket, in which case UR Travel cash tickets are an option, but as mentioned in #1, they don't pay off.

      3. if you don't have to use up your URs this time, I would transfer them to Korean Air and try to get a business ticket to and from Korea in the future.

  • Milemoa, is 22500 Delta One Way still available? I'm looking on Delta's site for IAD to HON or NYU to HNL until next March, but I don't see 22500 one way and 30000 is the smallest mileage. Is it because the tickets are not released until next March? Or maybe the rules or point deduction rate has changed?

    • You can try it yourself on Korean Air's site or give them a call. I've seen a few cases where people were able to get tickets on dates that required a higher mileage redemption than 22,500 miles.

  • Hello, I'm 17 years old, going back to Korea in September after 6 months in Vancouver, and I'm going back alone.

My family Korean Air miles are about to expire and I want to combine them.
But Korean Air doesn't have award tickets, and when I looked it up, it said that SkyTeam can be used on other airlines.
I want to redeem an award on Delta, but I can only buy a round-trip ticket?
On Korean Air, I can only find round-trip or multi-city tickets.
I'm not very good at this, so it's very difficult and painful.. lol

I want to go to Korea one way, I want to fly Delta, and I really want to use my SkyTeam miles, is there a way?
    Please reply. Thank you!

    • 1. SkyTeam ticketing is round-trip only.

      2. Korean Air has a waitlist system, and if you put a waitlist, it often gets released, so it's better to put a few dates on hold when you can.

  • Hello, I have a quick question.
I am currently 790 miles short of MQM and $1700 short of MQD... I've been working really hard this year, and I'm in this state with a few weeks left in 2018, but my question is, if I don't hit MQM25000, will I start from zero again next year? And do I have to meet both MQM and MQD at the same time... If I don't meet either, will I start from zero? In this case, should I take a trip at the end of the year? I don't know... I'll make the decision, but I'd appreciate some advice.

My family is traveling to Hawaii in February using the above method.
I can't find our ticket on the Delta homepage, so I'm thinking
If I go to a Delta counter or automated check-in machine on the same day, will I get a ticket?
This is a very newbie question, but I've never traveled this way before.

I found the reservation on Delta's site, but it has an unusual name.
For example, AbcMR Im this way: wife is MS son is MSTR daughter is MISS
Last time I contacted Korean Air because my children's first and middle names are attached, and they said that their system doesn't have space, so it doesn't matter as long as the spelling is the same.
Is that what happens when you buy Delta on Korean Air?
Will he be okay at the airport later?

Or do I have to pay for the disconnection from Korean Air?
When going from Korean Air, there is a change from 10 minutes delay to 20 minutes early departure when coming, but the phone also calls directly to say that I did not check in the homepage and hang up with Delta, so it is a little different from when I was traveling.
            Thank you

            • If I remember correctly, UA requires you to ticket with a UA card to get the free bag, but Delta only requires your Delta membership number on the reservation. I'd suggest bringing the physical card to Delta check-in and ask them to put the number on it and subtract the bag amount.

Include your SkyMiles number in your reservation by providing it when booking your flight, adding it when checking in, or looking up your itinerary and clicking "Add Frequent Flyer #."

When I search on google flights, it shows CLT->MSP->HNL from Delta, so when I search CLT to HNL on Korean Air, it only shows 2 stops like CLT->ATL->LAX->HNL, not 1 stop at MSP. Is it possible to book CLT->MSP->HNL on Korean Air in this case? I would appreciate your answer.

Korean Air is not searching for domestic US reservations, even though it worked when I tested it before. When I tested it before, I put Hawaii and the US mainland. It says that the origin and destination are not in the same region. The mileage chart also doesn't show US-US.
