This is good: The Edit and Points Boost combine for a honeyed combination

Today's post is an introduction to using Chase's The Edit in combination with Points Boost.

  • The Edit℠ is Chase's hotel booking program that allows you to earn certain additional benefits.
  • Points Boost is a program that boosts the value of your points when you redeem Chase UR points under certain conditions.

There are some cases where it's really nice to have a combination of both at the same time.

Today's post is a detailed explanation of these two programs.

Before we get started News that the ongoing Sapphire Reserve® Card personalized offer is nearing its end I think we should tell you first.

The annual fee goes up, and it takes a lot of work to get all the benefits, The signup bonus alone is the best everis an unarguable offer.

If you've been holding off on applying, we encourage you to do so before it's too late.

Now, let's dive into today's post.

1. What is The Edit?

The Edit is Chase's hotel booking program where you can earn additional benefits.

For those of you familiar with Amex's Fine Hotels & Resorts, I think it's easy to think of it as "Chase The Edit = Amex FHR".

  • Each region has a few designated hotels (mostly luxury hotels) and
  • When you book these hotels through Chase Travel℠, Chase's own travel portal, you'll receive a
  • The basic gist is that you get free breakfast for 2 + $ $100 credit + upgrade / late checkout (if available).

For Seoul, a search at this point shows that a total of four hotels are part of The Edit.

  • Four Seasons Hotel Seoul
  • The Shilla Hotel
  • Park Hyatt Seoul
  • InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas (InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas)

What matters is who has access to The Edit.

Just as Amex's FHR is an exclusive benefit for Amex Platinum / Centurion members, The Edit is a unique benefit for

  • Sapphire Reserve Personal Card
  • Sapphire Reserve Business Card
  • And the J.P. Morgan Reserve Card, which is by invitation only.

This is an exclusive offer that can only be booked by members.

"Chase The Edit = Chase's version of the Amex FHR, only available to Personal Sari and Business Sari cardmembers".

2. What is Points Boost?

Next up is Points Boost.

Points Boost is a new concept that was introduced with the revamp of the Sapphire family of cards.

  • Previously, when you redeemed UR points on Chase Travel, the travel booking portal, with your Sari card, it was calculated as 1 point = 1.5 cents, right?
  • For the Sapphire Preferred® card, it was calculated as 1 point = 1.25 cents in bulk.

That's changed dramatically this time around.

  • Sari, Sharp new members who created their cards on or after 6/23 have had their value pegged at 1 point = 1 cent by default when redeeming UR points on Chase Travel. (Existing members have a more complicated rule. See the A neat explanation from @kangunbamfor more information).
  • They say they'll only give you a higher point value if you redeem for a specific hotel, flight, etc.

This is where Points Boost comes in, where you can increase the value of your points for select hotels and flights.

The maximum value of the Points Boost depends on the card you have.

  • Up to 2 cents for saris and sari businesses
  • Up to 1.75 cents for Sharp cards (up to 1.5 cents for certain hotels/flights; up to 1.75 cents for certain flight business or higher)

The key here is that When you book a hotel in The Edit with Points Boost using the Sari card, the value is fixed at 1 point = 2 centsis that it becomes

(I'm not sure if the Points Boost will apply to all The Edit hotels at all times, so we'll have to wait and see.)

So when you combine The Edit with Points Boost, you get a pretty good deal that you might not have thought of.

3. examples of utilization

Let's look at two examples

1) Seoul Park Hyatt

The Park Hyatt in Seoul is the most upscale hotel in the Hyatt family in South Korea and is a Hyatt 6 star hotel.

A standard room costs 25,000 Hyatt points per night during weekdays, while a suite costs 40,000 points per night (with a 4,000 point discount during low season and a 4,000 point surcharge during high season).

Let's say you're staying overnight on August 26th.

But bummer. As you can see in the image above, there are no points rooms for 8/26, right?

No, there is a room, but it's not available for points because the base room is sold out, and if I wanted to use points, I'd have to pay 40,000 points a night to get a suite.

I wondered what a cash stay would be like, so I looked and saw a room.

The cheapest room available (1 King Bed, City View, Deluxe) is $456 non-refundable at the Hyatt member rate. The Standard Rate is $517.

This is where the combination of The Edit and Points Boost really shines.

A search on Chase Travel's site for the same dates and same conditions shows $515 per night including taxes.

I'm eligible for Points Boost, so I can get a one-night stay for 25,741 UR points.

Considering it costs 25,000 Hyatt points = 25,000 UR points for a basic room points night, this is pretty much the same in terms of points deduction, right?

By the way, the Hyatt in Seoul is part of The Edit, as I mentioned earlier.

This automatically comes with a number of benefits.

In other words, you're looking at roughly $200 more in benefits than if you spent the same 25,000 UR points and transferred to Hyatt to book.

If you're a regular Hyatt member and not an elite member, you're in for a real treat.

The benefit of converting UR points to Hyatt points for a stay is that you get a room, not breakfast, not a night credit, and on 8/26, even with points, you can't even get a room because there are no rooms available.

Suites are even cheaper to redeem points for.

If you transferred URs to Hyatt points earlier and booked directly on the Hyatt site, you would need 40,000 Hyatt = 40,000 UR points.

However, for 8/26, using The Edit + Points Boost combination, you can book on the Chase Travel site for 35,641 UR points, a $200 value.

It's a bit of a pigeon-hole situation.

2) Four Seasons Hotels

The second example is a Four Seasons hotel.

The Four Seasons is often considered one of the best hotels in Seoul due to its location (Gwanghwamun) and exceptional service, but it's often a bit of a mixed bag because it doesn't allow miles/points stays.

However, thanks to the combination of The Edit + Points Boost, I'm now in a position where I can get breakfast + $ $100 credit for about the same amount of points as a Park Hyatt stay.

For example, if you search for the same 8/26 stay, you'll find a cash pitcher night for $$594, and a one-night stay for 29,701 points when redeeming UR points.

29,701 points per night is not a cheap redemption by any means, but when you consider that breakfast for two is roughly $100, plus a $100 credit, I'd say it's a great value.

4.

There are two drawbacks to the combination of The Edit and Points Boost.

1) Let checkout (if available)

The first is that Let's Checkout is not a guaranteed benefit.

This is one of the differences with Amex's FHR.

Amex FHRs come with a guaranteed 4pm checkout, so even if you're staying overnight, you're guaranteed a 4pm checkout, even during the busiest times of the year.

However, the reservation for The Edit says "If available", so it's often difficult to extend the time to 1 hour, let alone 4 hours during peak summer months.

2) Credit up to $250 per half year ($500 per year maximum) with a minimum booking of 2 nights

We're told that new saree cards created after the release of the updated cards will be eligible for up to $250 The Edit credit for half a calendar year, and up to $500 The Edit credit for a full year (seeExisting members will have immediate access to The Edit + Point Boost combination, but the credit portion of this offer will be new after 10/26).

To qualify for the credit, you must make a prepaid reservation on Chase Travel using the Sari card. ("Qualifying purchases are when you or an authorized user of the account use the card for prepaid "Pay Now" stays of 2 nights or more.")

It's important to note that 1-night bookings are not eligible; you must book a 2-night stay to receive the credit.

For the Amex Personal Platinum card, you can get $200 FHR booking credit per year, even if it's a 1-night booking.

So for those of you who are familiar with FHR, it's worth remembering that The Edit maximum $500 credit is only available for bookings of 2 nights or more.

Let's wrap up today's post.

There are many benefits to the combination of The Edit and Points Boost, including dramatically increasing the value of UR points for luxury hotel stays.

While not covered in detail in the text, it's worth mentioning that it counts as an eligible hotel stay and if you have elite status with the hotel, you'll also receive elite benefits.

We've always said that Hyatt is the way to go when transferring UR points to hotels.

  • If you have the Sari card, you should also seriously look into The Edit + Points Boost combination.
  • This benefit alone might be enough to make me seriously consider getting a Sari card.

During this promotion, you will receive 100,000 points + $500 credit as a Sari Personal Card bonus.

Even without all the other goodies, The Edit + Points Boost makes it easy to get a $2,000 value for just 100,000 points, so if you've been on the fence about the Sari card, you might want to reconsider.

    Mamo,

One thing I would add is that you have to stay 2 nights to get the $250 Edit credit. I think that might be a bit of a barrier. I just stayed 2 nights at the JW Marriott Anaheim Resort and got the $250 Edit credit and $300 travel credit. They let me check out late until 2:00, but I had to talk to them one more time if I wanted to do it by 4:00, so I didn't bother.
And I think it's also a good advantage that FHR also earns hotel points for staying at Edit hotels and staying at Revinue. Most OTAs don't earn hotel points, but Edit hotels do.

    Reply
    • I left out the $250 semi-annual credit because I think it's a good combination even if you don't factor in the $250 credit.

Your comment made me think it would be a good idea to add it, so I've added it to the notes.

      Thank you for your comment.

  • It seems that there are many hotels in Korea that have high point deductions compared to the price, but in this case, it would be more useful. Especially in the off-season, it may be better to use Edit + Point Boost than to use points at Hyatt, even for Globalist. ^^;

    • Yes. You can get the globalist benefits as well, so I think you can decide based on the price.

  • Thanks for the info. I'm wondering what the rules will be for guest stays and if I'll still be able to get The Edit perks. I know Amex has a rule that requires an Amex card in the guest's name to book FHR guest stays, but if Chase doesn't have that rule, it would be a nice perk for gifting to family back home.

    • On the booking screen, select Traveler Profile, and then select New profile to enter a new name for the guest. Based on this, it looks like it should be possible for guests to stay without being the card member, but I'll have to check some real-world examples.

  • The elite status is a big draw for me, especially in Korea. It's a shame that I have to pay for parking instead of award nights at places like Park Hyatt Seoul on Globalist, but it's 20k/day and I guess that can be offset by the credit. I downgraded Saft yesterday and it said the offer is ending soon. How long do you usually wait for the offer to end before you see it?

    Reply
    • 1. I don't know if you can charge the valet parking fee to the room charge, but I'm guessing you can.

      2. I think it was usually around 2 weeks, but it was different every time, so it's hard to generalize.

You only get one bonus anyway, so there's no point in closing it and reopening it, and it seems like a good business to keep it, collect points, and stay at the edit. Fortunately, I live near a big city, so I think I'll be able to put it to good use.
Anyway, how do I register for that board? Every time I press register, it says that I don't receive it. I want to register so much. I can write a lot of reviews and reply a lot, but black black

I've been watching and getting good information every time. Thank you always.
I applied for this sari and received $500 travel credit after spending.
My wife and I will be visiting Germany in October and I want to take advantage of The Edit hotel benefits in Berlin, but I'm a beginner so I'm asking the experts how to redeem points efficiently. First, the hotel is eligible for both The Edit and Points Boost, so the cost per night is $393, but the final bill including taxes is $838. If I pay with points, it will be 41,888 pts. Which payment method will get me the most benefit in this case?
    1. spend the travel credit $500 and pay the balance $338 in sari.
    2. Use travel credit $500 and pay the balance $338 for 16,888 UR points.
    3. Spend 26,000 UR points and pay the balance $318 in Sari.
All of the above may be stupid, and if there is another way to do it, I'd love to hear about it.

    Reply
    • I think the answer is 1. Travel credits do expire, so you'll want to use them while they're available. As for the $250 The Edit credit that you get once a semi-annual, my understanding is that it only applies to cash payments, not points payments.

So number 1 seems to be the best option.

I used all of my points from my personal card to pay for my hotel in Korea.
As per the comment above, I paid $550 cash and points for the first few days and everything else was points.

I booked 5 nights and 6 days x 2 rooms at Shilla Hotel Executive, Park Hyatt Suites for 2 nights and Mondrian for 2 nights and 3 days. I used 1pt = 2 cent value with The Edit program. Breakfast is included and it seems like a really good deal. Originally, I was going to stay at a business hotel, but thanks to the Edit and point booster, the price difference was not so big. Breakfast is included and it's good to give hotel credit.

It will take a few weeks for the treble credits and the edit credits to come in, but I'll update again when they do.

  • Thanks for the great information! One more question, though. I'm a little confused, is the $250 semi-annual credit the same as the $100 property credit that is part of the existing The Edit hotel offer? Is it separate from that? Or is it just that the property credit is only for stays of 2 nights or more with a limit of not receiving more than $250 semi-annually?

    Reply
    • Yes. It's a separate thing.

      1. The $100 property credit you receive for using The Edit is a credit from the hotel and can be earned from 1 night. If you stay multiple times a year in 1-night increments, you can get it for each stay and I don't know of any restrictions (although there may be restrictions for consecutive nights booked in 1-night increments).

      2. $250 semi-annual credit is the credit that Sari card members receive from Chase, not the hotel. In this case, there is a 2+ night booking requirement, and $250 semi-annual is the limit.

It's still quite a while away, but I had my 8-night Seoul and Tokyo trip next April pretty much set up as a FHR and Bonvoy points/FNA stay, but after seeing this post, I quickly switched my 2 rooms at the Park Hyatt 25k/night to Four Seasons with the edit + points boost combo lol.
I don't have Hyatt elite status, so I was really just renting a room, but the edit +point boost is really a honey combination. With this combination, Hyatt was really good, but I switched to Four Seasons, which I was originally looking at. At first I thought the edit list said not to use the annual $500 credit, but it's great to use it in Seoul. Thanks for the useful information.

When you say free breakfast for 2 people + $100 credit when using Edit hotel for 3 days and 2 nights, if I use it for 3 days and 4 nights, will the free breakfast every day be included, and is the $100 credit only for 1 time or can it be more than that? Thank you.

I stayed at the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel by IHG and paid $252.3 out of a total of $498.3 including taxes and received $250 back in Sari card benefits (also for members before Sari renewal) and the remaining $246 was paid with 12,300 points. Breakfast was $60 Max per day at the restaurant on the 1st floor, and I used the remaining $100 credit for parking $30 X 2 and room service. I was very happy to use the Sari Card $150 dining credit during this trip. Thanks for the great information. Please add me to your email list for sign up notices.
