Today's post is a detailed explanation of the Chase UR points system in general.
Specifically,
- Difference between UR and MR
- Converting and summing UR points
- Converting and summing points
- Optimizing the use of UR points
- Optimize UR Points earning
We're going to break this down to give you a more detailed explanation.
Table of Contents
1. Features of UR Points: How to earn in multiple boxes
First, let's explain what UR points are and what makes them unique.
UR points are short for Ultimate Rewards points, which is Chase's own loyalty system.
UR is
- Membership Rewards (MR) from Amex
- Thankyou Points (TYP) from Citi
- Capital One's 'miles'
- Bonvoy points from Marriot, a hotel chain
Together with the four programs, these are the five transformable points.
affiliate partners, ease of earning, etc. UR is the most important of the transformable pointsI think most of you will agree that it's a good idea.
UR points have a couple of different characteristics compared to their main competitor, Amex MR points.
First, let's look at Amex MR.
1) With MR, most people have a single MR account even if they have multiple credit cards, so they can accumulate MR points in that account.
2) The points are all in one box, so it's not like there are separate cards with airline mileage conversion as a special feature.
To illustrate, think of MR as having one big box, and you're dumping all your points into it.
For MR, because all points are collected in one box,
1) There's no risk of losing MR points you've earned by canceling a specific card.
2) Having a particular card doesn't make you better at redeeming points (although things like the 35% rebate on airline purchases on the Business Platinum card is a special feature).
Chase UR is a completely different approach.
1) For UR, we can say that each new credit card creates a new UR box ( = container = account).
To illustrate, here's what it looks like
- Freedom CardUR points are stacked in the UR box associated with the Freedom Card.
- Ink Cash Cardto the UR box associated with the Ink Cash card,
- Sapphire Reservewill be stacked in a UR box in Sapphire Reserve, one on top of the other.
2) Since each box earns points independently, canceling the card (throwing away the box) will also destroy the UR points inside it, so make sure to move it to another box before canceling the card, or use up the contents = points.
3) The use of these accumulated UR points depends on which UR box they are in. The Sapphire Reserve box pictured above is the only one that has a different color and sparkles, but we'll get into the details below.
To summarize,
The UR program is a ,
- Not only do different cards earn UR points at different rates,
- Different cards have different ways to redeem UR pointsI would say.
Okay, so we've gotten this far, right?
Let's move on to the next one.
2. convert and total UR points
1) Transfer points (transfer)
As we've just explained, the value and use of UR points depends a lot on which box they come in, i.e. which card they're linked to.
The concept of point conversion is important here.
When we say transfer points, we mean transferring UR points to airline miles or hotel points.in the file.
- "I transferred UR points to Hyatt and stayed at the Park Hyatt in New York"
- "I transferred UR points to United and booked an economy ticket to South Korea for 38,500 miles"
You've read a lot of stories like this.
All of them mean you've transferred UR points to airline miles or hotel points. (Conversions are in increments of 1,000 points.)
Now, here's the kicker.
That is, not all UR earning cards = not all boxes are convertible.
There are currently eight cards that earn UR points: four personal cards, four business cards, and a total of eight cards in total.
Card name | Personal/Business | Transition features | Summation functions | When using URMall |
Freedom Flex | Personal | X | O | 1 cent per 1 point |
Sister Freedom | Personal | X | O | 1 cent |
Sapphire Preferred (Sharp) | Personal | O | O | 1.25 cents |
Sapphire Reserve (Sari) | Personal | O | O | 1.5 cents |
Ink cache | Business | X | O | 1 cent |
Ink Sister | Business | X | O | 1 cent |
Ink Prefers | Business | O | O | 1.25 cents |
Ink Premier | Business | X | X | 1 cent |
Of these eight cards, only three include the ability to convert to airline miles or hotel points.
- Sapphire Preferred (Sharp card)
- Sapphire Reserve (Sari Card)
- Ink Prefers
Only the UR points in the box from these three cards can be converted to airline miles or hotel points.
The boxed UR points from the other five cards are not convertible, so the only way to use them is as cash back or to redeem them on the UR Mall, Chase's travel booking site, where 1 point = 1 cent value.
Here's an illustration of this
- Ink cache The box has no conversion capabilities, so the UR in it can only be spent like cash or in the UR Mall.
- However, the Sapphire Reserve The boxes are convertible, so you're free to spend them for cash, redeem them for hotel points like Hyatt, or airline miles like United.
And then, like this Cards with built-in conversion capabilities are what I personally call 'Dorrance' cards.
"Dorrance??? I think a lot of people who say "Dorrance?" are younger, and people who immigrated/studied abroad a long time ago probably have one of these at home.
Yes, it's a transformer.
Japanese people had a hard time pronouncing the English transformer, so they started calling it Dorance, and it stuck, and I know many people still write it as Dorance in Korean.
Calling some cards Dorrance cards doesn't really mean anything - they transform/convert UR points into airline miles or hotel points, so calling them transformer = Dorrance cards is easier to remember, and that's about it.
Anyway, this is the concept of point conversion.
2) Combine points (combine)
If there's one concept that's important to remember in addition to converting points, it's the concept of combining points.
Point aggregation is the transfer of UR points from one box to another.which means
Pictorially, it looks like this.
Ink cacheUR points earned with Sapphire Reserve The idea is to 'sum' the points with the associated UR box.
That's one of the great things about the Chase UR program.
Why are points totaled in different boxes?
Sapphire Reserve This is because it's a more valuable use of UR points to write to the box.
As we discussed earlier in the concept of transitions,
- Ink cache The box has no conversion capabilities, so the UR in it can only be used for cash.
- However, the Sapphire Reserve The boxes are convertible, so you're free to spend them for cash, redeem them for hotel points like Hyatt, or airline miles like United.
- Also, even if you use it like cash Sapphire Reserve The box has the ability to redeem 1 point for 1.5 cents when using UR Mall, so the real cash value is also 1.5 cents.
This means that if you only have an Ink Cash box, the maximum value of your UR is 1 cent, but if you move it over to Sapphire Reserve, the minimum value (assuming you spend it in the UR Mall) is 1.5 cents, and depending on how you spend it, you can squeeze out as much as 4 or 5 cents.
So, to maximize the value of your hard-earned UR points, the Dorrance card is a must-have, especially when it comes to Sapphire Reserve Cardis superior (except for the annual fee).
3. Points to keep in mind when converting and summing
When converting or summing UR points, you should keep the following in mind
First, the rules around transfers.
1) Converting points is not something you can just hand over to any third party.
- An airline/hotel account in the cardholder's name or,
- The terms and conditions say that points can only be transferred to an airline/hotel account for one family member who is registered as an authorized user.
- And it says that once you register one person and convert them to an airline/hotel account in their name, only that registered family member's account will be eligible for points conversion after that.
"You can transfer points in 1,000 point increments, but only to participating frequent travel program accounts belonging to you or one additional household member who is listed on your account as an authorized user. Once you transfer points to an authorized user, that person will be the only authorized user eligible to receive point transfers through this program."
2) Business accounts have slightly different wordings.
- An airline or hotel account in the cardholder's name or a
- It says that I can only switch to an air/hotel account in the name of the company owner who is registered as an authorized user.
- For personal cards, it says that you can switch to Authorized user once and that's it, but that's missing for business accounts.
"You can transfer points in 1,000 point increments, but only to participating frequent travel program accounts belonging to you or an owner of the company who is listed as an authorized user on the account."
You can combine points in 1-point increments. There are 3 things to remember about combining points
1) You can't just give your points to any third party.
- Another card issued in your name or,
- Only with card accounts held by one member of your household.
"You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household."
2) For business cards, it's basically the same, but with slightly different wording.
- Another card issued in your name or,
- It says the card is held by a single member of the family, or the owner of the company.
"You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household or owner of the company, as applicable."
For example,
- There will be times when I want to transfer UR points accumulated on an Ink Cash issued in my name to a Sapphire Reserve issued in my name.
- You may be able to transfer UR points earned on an Ink Sister card issued in your name to an Ink Preferred account issued in your spouse's name and combine the points.
3) As described in the table above, there are 4 personal cards and 4 business cards that can earn UR, and among them, the business card The Ink Premier card is an exception to this rule and cannot combine points.on the server. It's important to remember that
Shortcuts: Ink Premier Card details
4. Optimize the use of UR points
That's a long-winded way of saying it, but here's the gist of it.
- To optimize the value of your UR points, every couple or family should have at least one Dorrance card,
- Frequent paid flight tickets or hotel stays Sapphire Reserve Cardis required
I think we can organize it like this.
Let me explain why.
These days, the Ink Cash card and the Ink Sister card are both available on the Running a 90,000 point jackpot promotionis.
If your husband is Ink Cash Card 90,000 points for a single card, and my wife has a Ink Sister Card Let's say you earned 90,000 points on a single card, which would be 180,000 points if you combined them across your family.
1) First, if you don't have a Dorrance card at all, 180,000 points is $1,800 in cash value, and that's the best way to redeem them. (Of course, you can exchange them for Kika at UR Mall, and sometimes they run bonus promotions like 10%, but that's an exception).
2) If one member of the couple has a Dorrance card with a Sharp cardsfor 180,000 points,
- United to 180,000 miles or
- Exchange for 180,000 Hyatt points or
- You can use it to book airline tickets or hotels on UR Mall, a $2,250 value.
3) But what if one of the couple has a Dorrance card with a Sari Cardyou have 180,000 points, you'd have to use
- United to 180,000 miles or
- Exchange for 180,000 Hyatt points or
- You can use it to book airline tickets or hotels on UR Mall, a $2,700 value.
Also, if you have a sharp card or a sari card, you'll have a lot more options to choose from once you have it.
For example, let's say you're ticketing a roundtrip from LA to Incheon next July.
Airfare prices have gone up so much lately that a simple roundtrip economy ticket from LA to Incheon costs nearly $1,500.
Luckily, it's a mileage seat day, so it's best bang for the buck to transfer UR to United (if you have a Dorrance card) and ticket round-trip.
If I divide $1,450 before taxes by 73,500 miles, I get a value of 1.9 cents per mile = 1UR.
However, mileage seats are pretty much dried up these days, so I can never guarantee that I'll always be able to get one on the dates I want.
Then you end up spending UR like cash to buy a ticket.
Depending on which Dorrance card you have, the point deduction can make a big difference.
- First off, if you were to redeem points for a $1,500 ticket at UR Mall linked to Ink Cash without a Dorrance card, the value per point is 1 cent, so you'd need to spend close to 150,000 points.
- The UR mall associated with Sharp is 1.25 cents per point, so you need 120,000 points to save 30,000 points.
- Speaking of the UR Mall associated with Sari, it's 1.5 cents per point, so all you need is 100,000 points, a whopping 50,000 point savings compared to Ink Cash.
That is, You could save up to 50,000 points just by having the Sari cardcan also mean
Of course, there's one thing to consider here.
The Sari card has a $550 annual fee for one year, and even without the $300 annual credit, the effective annual fee is $250. For Sari, there is an additional $75 annual fee for each additional family card (authorized user), so the final annual fee could be as high as $325 if you want to transfer air miles through your family card.
On the other hand, if you have a Dorrance card but a Sharp cards with relatively low annual feesMy Ink Preferred cards have an annual fee of $95 each.
To put it in perspective, the difference in annual fees between Sari and Sharp is $230 per year.
That's why The decision about which Dorrance card to create and maintain should be based on a careful review of your travel patterns and points redemptions..
- If you say, "I always convert to airline miles or hotel points," then you're probably thinking Sharp with low annual feefor more information.
- If you say, "I can't take vacation at will, so I can only travel when everyone else is going, so I can't redeem miles, I have to redeem cash. Sari Cardis the way to get more value out of your points than the annual fee.

* Redeemable for $1.50 when redeemed for travel expenses on the Chase Travel Portal, meaning 60,000 points = $$900 value. |
* The annual fee is $550 for the first year. However, a $300 annual credit is automatically applied for travel expenses, so the actual annual fee is $250 (based on the year of membership). |
5. Optimize your UR Points earning
Speaking of which, let's take a quick look at optimizing points redemption as well as optimizing points earning.
As mentioned earlier, UR points are free to move from box to box, with the exception of Ink Primaries.
So you can collect as many UR points as you can in any way, then move them to the box associated with your Dorrance card and spend them however you want.
So how can you maximize the collection of URs?
1) Collect with signup bonuses
It's basic common sense, but it bears repeating.
Just as miles are earned with sign-up bonuses, UR points are earned with sign-up bonuses at the most basic level.
The problem is that
- With Sharp/Sari, you can't hold them at the same time, and the 48-month window to get the signup bonus again makes it hard to earn a lot of points.
- For the Freedom Flex or Freedom Sister cards, which have no annual fee, the bonus is 20,000 points or no real sign-up bonus, which is not enough to make it worthwhile.
In that regard, the Ink cards are still the best way to earn in bulk..
- Ink Cash, Ink Sister, and Ink Preferred are all eligible for their own signup bonuses.
- The window to earn a new signup bonus after canceling is also short, at 24 months.

* Earn 1.5 points for every $1 spent |
* You can apply through the partner site. |
Ink Business Cash® Credit Card (Ink Cache): Earn UR 35,000 points worth $350 in cash after spending $3,000 in 3 months. Earn UR 40,000 points worth $400 in cash when you spend an additional $3,000 ($6,000 total) within the next 6 months. UR 75,000 points in total. No annual fee. |
* Earn 5 points per $1 spent on office supply store, internet, cable, and phone (up to $25,000 in a year) |
* You can apply through the partner site. |
2) Make good use of itemized bonuses
If you don't have a long credit history, it's hard to get a sharp or a sari, so you'll have to use the Freedom Flex Cardin some cases.
Also, because of the Sari/Sharp card annual fee, the Freedom Flexfor some of you.
In this case, it's safe to say that utilizing the quarterly bonus items will pay off in the long run.
For example, in the fourth quarter of this year, the Freedom Flex earns 5 points per $1 spent at Walmart and Paypal, so that's 5 points for every $1,500 spent, so that's 7,500 points just for using it well.
For beginners, it's a good idea to save up for a year or two and then later create a Dorrance card to redeem for airline miles or a hotel room.
3) Use a card with a higher base earning rate
Many business owners are too busy to use separate cards for each item and don't have time for this.
These people have a higher base earning rate of Ink Sister You must use the same card.
Ink Sister Cardearns 1.5 points for every dollar spent, no questions asked.
So if you spend $50,000 a month, you'll earn 7.5k UR points. Combine that with the Sari card, and you'll have $1,125 a month to spend on travel.

Let's wrap up today's post.
Each transmogrification point has different rules, so make sure you understand the important ones.
UR points are the most important of the transformable points.
If you're a Wizard, you should know these things, so it's good to get them right.

Thank you so much, I was recently reviewing and organizing the contents again, but you summarized it so that I could see it easily at a glance~!
We're glad you found this helpful.
This was very helpful, especially since I've only been using Chase UR points. Thanks for the tips, and keep up the good work!
We're glad you found this helpful.
Explaining the concept of UR was always a challenge, but in the future, I can give a link. Starting with UR, I propose a content that explains the big 4 points one by one.
I'll give it serious consideration 🙂 .
This may be a stupid question, but if I buy a Korean Air ticket with UR points, will I get Korean Air miles? I'm using points instead of cash, so I guess it's possible, but I've never done it before, so I'm asking.
Your earning rate will vary depending on the specific fare class you purchase, but in principle, you'll earn miles because you're buying a paid ticket.
I feel like I'm getting personalized tutoring! I really needed this information, and thank you for putting it all in one place.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for always being so kind and detailed with your information. I thought I knew this, but re-reading it was a learning experience. This may be a very basic question, but is it true that once a UR is moved to a Doransk, it cannot be moved back to another card? Is it possible to move a UR from Sharp to Flex, close Sharp, open Sari or Sharp again and move it back? I think I saw a similar message when moving URs from Flex to Sharp, but I'm not sure, so I'm asking.
You can move around freely and use many of the methods you mentioned.
Oh right, thank you!
Oh thank you Mamo, I just got my first business card and I have a trip to Korea early next year, so I was thinking about upgrading my Sapphire card to Sari (at least 3 years away to get the signup bonus), but you wrote the earning and transpur information in detail! Verinais 🙂 Thank you so much!
Thanks for the comment.
That's a perfect description...ðŸ™'
Thank you.
Thank you.
I have a personal sharp card in my husband's name and I am registered as AU.
This time my husband opened a business inkcash and I will soon get 90k and move 90k to my personal sharp,
The question here is,
If I open a business ink sister and get 90k, will this count as points under my husbands sharp card (I'm only registered as AU)?
Thank you.
Yes, you can. If you look at the terms in the text, it says ""You can move your points ... to .... one member of your household...".
Thanks for the cleanup.
For reference, nowadays, Bilt is also a Dorrance after UR, MR, TYP, COM (Cap One), and Merrill. Although there is no sign-up, it is a problem, but it is also a unique (Merriot/Bilt) point that can be converted to AA, and it is also a unique (UR/Bilt) point that can be converted to Hayat or UA. Personally, I think it's a great card even if only 2-3 million come out with sign-ups, but I can't find any sign-ups.
I see, but I think I'll have to stay in the second tier for a while since it's not easy to earn points in bulk. Thanks for the feedback!
That's right. I think it's more like 3, not 2.
Thanks for the recap, which came at just the right time, by the way 🙂 I'll have to show it around.
It would be nice to have more of them, whether it's two or three.
Thanks for the cleanup.
I have a question, I currently have a Sari and I want to downgrade that card to a Freedom Sister, does that automatically move my UR to the Freedom Sister box as well?
Yes. That's right. However, it's important to note that this will keep the points alive, but it will remove the ability to convert them.
I've been signed up for 4 years so I'm going to apply for a new one next year and move again lol.
Thank you for your quick response
Thanks for the neat organization. As many of you know, you can transfer in increments of 1,000 points and combine in increments of 1 point. If you try to collect points just in time to transfer, you may run out and miss your reservation, so please save a little more generously.
Oh, that's important. Let's add it to the body.
Great recap, Mamo!
Thank you so much... I'm sure it helped a lot of people!!!
Thank you.
If I need a connection in the US, can you give me an example of how to get a one-way ticket Incheon-Cleveland 11/18 on UR if United doesn't have a good fare (12 hour layover for 71k)? You don't have to do it if you have time.
1. assuming you have a UA partner card, if you search for Tokyo (TYO) instead of Incheon, the Tokyo Haneda-Chicago-Cleveland itinerary comes up around 37,000 miles for an economy one-way, with a good 2-3 hour layover in Chicago.
https://www.milemoa.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/UA-HND-ORD-CLE.jpg
2. In this case, you need to get a Gimpo-Haneda ticket, but Asiana doesn't have space on 11/18, but does have space on 11/19 (9,600 miles in economy). However, Gimpo leaves at 3:50pm and Haneda arrives at 5:55pm, so you only have 55 minutes to change to get on the Haneda-Chicago UA nonstop.
https://www.milemoa.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/OZ-GMP-HND-.jpg
3. If your itinerary allows for it, it would be best to fly into Japan on 11/19, sleep overnight, and fly into the US on 11/20. Otherwise, you may have to pay cash for the Gimpo-Haneda leg.
With your help, I compared one-way flights via Japan and found that Incheon-Narita-Newark-Cleveland, no change of schedule, and 2 hours of transit time at each airport, so I'm looking to book it. Thanks.
Ah, good for you.
Mamo, your detailed explanation really helps a lot!!!!! Thanks:)
Thank you for signing up @kekekeke
We're glad you found this helpful.
Thank you so much. I have both the Chase Sapphire Reserve (this is mine) and the Freedom Flex (my husband's), so what would be better to apply for between the Chase Ink Business Cash and the Preferred? The Preferred requires you to spend $15k in 3 months, which is a little hard, and the Ink Business Cash doesn't seem to allow you to spend as many points as the Preferred (did I understand that correctly?) What do you recommend?
Since you already have a Sapphire Reserve, I think you can create an Ink Cash.
The only one that isn't point transferable is the newly launched Ink Premier, but you can freely transfer your sign-up bonus from Ink Cash to Sapphire Reserve.
Thanks for the reply. I just signed up for ink cash thanks to you!!!
Good luck.
I received my card today!! Thank you!
Congratulations!
The $$ I've saved and the $$$ I'll save thanks to you is enormous. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for the great article.
We're glad you found the site helpful. Thanks for the comment.
I followed your instructions and booked a ticket for a departure date that will change Haneda to Narita. I was worried about the 55-minute Haneda airport transition. Thank you so much-~~~!
We're glad to hear you made it. Just be aware that the Narita to Haneda trip takes quite a bit of time.
Oh my goodness, you make it so easy.
I've been accumulating metallurgical miles, but I'm not sure what I'm getting into, so it's nice to have it summarized like this. Thanks
We're glad you found this helpful.
Thanks for the great information. I've been looking at sharpening, but when will the 80k or 100k offers come back? I'm not in a hurry, but it feels like a waste to make it for 60k.
Speaking of which, the Sari offer ends on December 1 at 9am Eastern for affiliate links, so I'm hoping Sharp will take over right after that, but that's Chase for you, so it's hard to predict.
The phrase "miles are earned as a sign-up bonus" suddenly makes me feel like a ding-dong. I thought I had to work hard to earn them.
It's been 4 years since I got the Sharp, so how do I get the sign-up bonus again? Can I transfer the points from the Sharp to another card (like the Freedom), cancel the Sharp, and then reapply for the Sharp at the appropriate time to get the signup bonus? I'm also wondering how much time would be required in between if I canceled and re-signed up for the same type of card~?
It varies by card - Sharp/Saari is 48 months after signup. Other Chase cards are typically 24 months.
Currently, the Sharp and Sari are considered the same family card, so if you have the Sharp card, you can't apply for the Sari card.
So, to get a new signup bonus, you'll need to use the
1. make sure it's been 48 months since you received the sign-up bonus (this is when you received the sign-up bonus, not when the card was issued).
2. If it's too late, transfer your current Sharp Points to another card and cancel, or downgrade to the Freedom or Freedom Sister.
3. then you'll get a Sarina Sharpe card.
As a reminder, the Sari card is currently running an 80,000 point promotion through 12/1.

Thanks for the great information. When I received my signup bonus.
Me too "When I received my signup bonus"
Thank you!
Thanks as always Mamo.
I also wrote on the board, but I'm currently transferring my Chase UR to Aeroplan and they're giving me a 30% bonus. It's 75k one way on Asiana Biz (LAXICN) through Aeroplan, but considering the bonus, I can get a one-way Biz ticket for less than 58k. The sale is also very cheap.
That's right. It's awesome.
I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for a great read, your explanations made it easy to understand.
We're glad you found this helpful.
I always feel, Mamo, that you write really well. So easy to understand.
I thought I already knew a lot about the uses of UR, but I learned a lot.
I also have Amex Plat, so I was wondering if I should organize my sari, but now I'm even more worried. I don't want to send it. 🙁 I'm sorry.
Also, Mamo, is there any way to clip these roundups?
Thank you and as the weather gets colder, watch out for colds and coronavirus!

We wish you a happy and bountiful Thanksgiving holiday!
Glad to hear that. Have a great weekend.
Mamo, thank you for always sharing such useful information!
As others have said, you are a very good writer.
I always admire your writing~.
Do you like to read books????
Thanks for the great information today~!
We're glad you found this helpful. Thank you.
I'm a newbie 🙂 It's like a lot of things that were jumbled around in my head have been summarized! Thank you for organizing it so nicely!
We're glad you found this helpful.
I've been a little confused lately, so thank you for clarifying the concept! I've had my Sari open for a long time (over 4 years) and I'm thinking of closing the account. If I transfer all the URs I earned from Sari to my Freedom card and then later open the Dorrance card again, can I transfer all the points from Freedom to the new card? I don't think I've seen a rule that says you can't transfer URs from one card to another, but I'd like to double-check before doing it.
Yes. Yes, you can.
Thank you so much. I was searching the UR site and elsewhere today to help my family with a UR merger and came across this article. You really do make the explanations easy to understand for someone with no basic knowledge, thank you as always.
We're glad you found this helpful.
I always learn a lot. Thanks for the great article.

I'm just starting to get my feet wet. Your information is like an oasis in my busy and exhausting life that allows me to relax and enjoy traveling on a tight budget. Thank you so much. My question is,
I have a Sharp and a Freedom Flex, and my husband has a Sharp and a Freedom Flex, and we're trying to get organized. We mainly use hotel and air miles, so I'm thinking of keeping the Sharp and closing the rest, but is that wise? And I need to transfer all my points to my Sharp before closing the rest, and is that possible online? I've looked everywhere and can't find it....How can I transfer my husband's UR and my freedom flex UR to my sharp?
1. the Freedom is a no annual fee card, why would you want to close it? I think it would be helpful if you could get as many quarters as you can, even if you don't get all of them every time.
2. if you have both the Sharp and Freedom on your Chase account, you should be able to see a menu online to combine points between the two accounts. As for your husband's account, you'll probably have to call Chase.
Thank you for your kind and prompt response. I guess I'll just have to keep the Freedom.

After years of wear and tear, I've finally gotten around to reading up on how to use the card.
While in business, I used to use only Ink Preferred and Amex Flat, but I just found out about the Ink UniCard that earns 1.5x... I've been losing 50%... ㅠㅠ
Of course, Amex is also getting 1.5x while paying over $5,000, but even so, MR is nowhere to be found.
I still only have one Chase card, the Preferred. 1/24
I applied for the Chase United Club card today, can I apply for the Ink Sister card right away? Or is it better to apply for the Ink Sister card after I'm approved? Also, can a P2 without a job apply for the Ink Sister card?
I'm thinking of applying for the Chase Hyatt card as well... will it be a problem if I do it all at once, even if I follow the 5/24 rule?
1. Chase has a 1/30 rule. The 1/30 rule is "if the second card you apply for in 30 days is a business card, you'll be denied", which means "if you've already opened one Chase card [personal or business] within 30 days, the next business card you apply for will be denied." So it looks like you'll have to wait a while to apply for the Ink Sister.
2. P2, you basically have to be self-employed, or at least plan to be. The scope of business is pretty broad, but basically, a business card is literally for business.
3. Chase has a 2/30 rule, which says that any "third personal" card applied for within 30 days will be declined. In other words, "up to two personal cards in 30 days is okay, but the third will be declined", so it seems a bit much to plan for a Chase Hyatt all at once. Take it slow.
Thanks for the kind words!
The Chase credit cards I currently have are the Unlimited, Flex, and Sapph.
If I want to upgrade to Sari, would it be a good idea to move my current SafUR to a FlashUR, cancel it, and then apply for Sari?
If Sari and Saf are considered family cards, would there be a problem with me getting the sign-up bonus for applying for Sari a few days after I canceled Saf? (**Saf hasn't yet reached 48 months of bonus points).
1. the Sari and Sharp are considered Family cards and must be 48 months old to receive the sign-up bonus.
2. rather than canceling the Sharp, I would suggest switching to a flex or sister card like you said (flex is a mastercard, so the card number will change).
3. you'll need to wait 48 months after signing up for Sharp, and the general recommendation is to wait a month after canceling or changing cards.
Sharp cards are
My spouse got 90k on the Ink Cash card and I got 90k on the Ink Sister card, but I don't have a Dorrance card at the moment.
If I'm approved for an Ink Preferred card and I add my spouse as an authorized user
Can I transfer/combine the 90,000 my spouse received from InkCash to my account?
If you look at the Ink Cash terms and conditions, it says the following regarding combining points
"You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household or owner of the company, as applicable."
Based on this, it seems like you don't need to register an authorized user.
Hi Mamo, my husband has a sari and I don't have any other Authorized User registered on the sari card. I'm thinking of signing up both of us for Ink Sister to get UR points, but after reading your post, I know it's easy to transfer my husband's Ink Sister UR points to the sari. What I'm not sure about is if I want to transfer my Ink Sister UR points to my husband's sari, do I need to register myself as the sari Authorized User? Thanks as always.
I understand that you don't need to be an AU enrollment.
In the Ink Sister terms and conditions, it says
"You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household or owner of the company, as applicable."
The Terms are available at the following link.

Hi Mamo,
I'm a newbie, about 6 months into my Sharp license. Thanks to you, I am learning the magic life hard.
I only have one Chase card right now, the Sharp, but I've heard that the Freedom Flex quarterly can be efficient for collecting UR points, so I'm thinking about getting the Flex as well. Do you recommend doing this? Are there any downsides to having the Sharp and the Flex at the same time?
It's common for first-time Chase cardholders to try the Freedom Flex. This is because they think they'll have a hard time getting approved for the Sharp.
If you already have the Sharp, I don't see why you'd want to get the Freedom Flex. Miles are earned through sign-up bonuses, and the sign-up bonus for the Freedom Flex is not even close to the $500 minimum.
So generally speaking, the Freedom series cards are made by downgrading Sharp or Sari cards after a year or two of playing them.
If your goal is to earn UR, I'd recommend targeting business cards, assuming you can get a business card. If not, I'd try to earn points through Amex or other cards in a variety of ways.
Thank you for your kind response. I'm an international student, so I don't think a business card would be easy, and a personal card that requires a lot of spending isn't easy either. I don't stay in hotels at all, except for conference expenses. I'm thinking about getting a Citi card or a Freedom Flex and trying to earn URs in time for the quarter, since AA is the main airline in my area.
Is there a difference between downgrading Sharp to Freedom Flex in a year or two and creating Freedom Flex now and canceling Sharp in a year or two?
1. the reason I'm being cautious about getting cards is because of 5/24, which makes it virtually impossible to get a Chase card if you've had more than 5 cards in the last 2 years, so I'd recommend getting a Chase card first, preferably one with a sign-up bonus worth at least $500.
2. if you live in an AA hub area, it's not a bad idea to earn AA, but if you're traveling during peak season and UA flies anywhere, a Chase-issued UA card that makes UR redemptions efficient is a must-have in my opinion. Having access to XN fare class makes a huge difference.
3. but the most important thing is your individual consumption and usage patterns, so if you think Freedom Flex is the best fit for your lifestyle, I think it's safe to go with Freedom.
I got it, thank you so much for the detailed advice. I think the Chase-issued UA card is a good option as well. Thanks a lot for your help, have a great day!
Hi I always get so much good information from you guys, but there's something I'm a little confused about.
I have a Chase Freedom card that opened a long time ago, a Freedom Sister, and a Sharp card that opened about 5 years ago, and I applied for the groom as an authorized user from the time it opened, and we used it together. When there was a big deal about the Ink Business cards this time, I got the Business Cash card through this site, and the groom applied for the Business Ink Cash right away and got the Business Ink Cash and the Business Ink Sister right after 3 months, so we both got about 900 million points. My question is, when I read the articles and comments on this site, it seems like it's possible to transfer his points to me, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is it possible to do it in our case, and if so, how do I do it? Is the only way to do it is to call CHASE?
1. as others have answered on the board, I would suggest calling Chase and asking them to combine your points.
https://www.milemoa.com/bbs/board/10015262
2. if this is your first time commenting on a main article, I will have to manually approve it, which is how your comment will appear. I apologize for the delay.
Where's Mamo, I wonder where my long comment went?
Hello. I'm studying abroad on a tight stipend and I'm reading your articles very well, thank you always!
I currently only have a Chase debit and a year's worth of discover credit, so I'm looking to open a Chase credit,
I don't usually need to stay in hotels or travel (though I will in the future), so I'm thinking about the Chase Freedom Unlimited with no annual fee.
I already have the 1.51 TP3T quarterly offer on the discover, so I think I'd rather have the 1.51 TP3T offer on the unleash than the flex, but the post says it's not worth opening a new freedom, so I'd like to know what you think!
Miles are earned through sign-up bonuses, so I don't recommend cards with sign-up bonuses of $500 or less unless there's a good reason. The Freedom line of cards are usually used to buy shirts and saris and then downgrade.
I opened the Sapphire Preferred about 2 years ago without knowing anything about it because of the signup bonus, but now that I've read your post, it all makes sense!! Thanks. I have quite a few points now and want to buy a plane ticket to Korea, but is it better to transfer them to United than to do it through the Chase Travel portal? I want to maximize my points, but I'm not sure what to do... BOA also has a lot of points, but I've never redeemed them yet... Do you have any recommendations?
This should be based on where you're traveling from, whether you want to do business, and the price of tickets for the dates you want to go. Even if the miles are a good value, they're worthless if there's no space on the dates you want.
Hello, I'm a beginner who took the first step to the magic circle by creating a Citi AA card last April! I'm a foreign student, so I don't have much to spend (3 months, 4,000 dollars lol), so I didn't even look at the chase offer when it came up, but suddenly I have a lot of wedding-related spending (wedding venue, honeymoon), so I'm thinking of opening a chase Dorrance card for my groom-to-be and me (after we get married, I'm thinking of upgrading one card and registering AU on the remaining card). Hopefully it will save us some money on the honeymoon or something, but my brain is going overboard ;);
We have a rough spending plan with a $3800 wedding venue deposit pt1 on 9/22, ~$3500 worth of new plane tickets in October, $1900 deposit pt2 in early January next year, $1900 deposit pt3 in early May next year, and ~$5000 in wedding expenses in between from March to end of June. With no Chase offers currently available, what would be wise for the two of us to do to get the most bang for our buck and when would each of us open them? We are thinking Paris early July and I currently have 83K AA miles (live in Southern California). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
If you have access to a business card, the Chase Business Card is probably your best bet, otherwise you can find a link to the Amex Flat 150k+ offer and apply.
Thanks for the suggestion, we'll take a look at it!
October sari, assuming the sarp bonus returns next April,
Apply for VentureX (me) in September
Apply for October Sari (me)
April Saf (Groom-to-be) application How about this?
Business is impossible... and Amex only got me up to 12.5k after 6 months of $8k spending. The spending requirements and annual fee are lousy for the amount and ease of benefits you get. It's a little hard to compare the value of Amex MR vs Venture 'miles'.
I ended up mermaiding with the venture x milesmoan link! I think my first thought was "let's get the points/miles this time and use them all this time!" but after looking around for a few days, I realized that it's more of a long term points family thing. I'll try to jump on the sap/sari offer if it comes up later. I appreciate your time and help! 🙂 I'm glad you're here.
Well done.
Congrats on the mermaid and thanks for the link.
I'm a beginner.
One Chase Sapphire Preferred card
Opened with Jameel.
I plan to open it in my wife's, mother's, and father's name in the future.
Can I transfer points from cards I plan to open in the future to my card?
If you can move it,
United air / asiana airlines with combined points
Can my wife and children ticket?
If ticketing is available,
How do I redeem Chase points?
Do I need to open a United air card?
Is ticketing available on Chase's site?
Thank you
1. The terms and conditions say that UR points can be combined with another account of yours or the account of one member of your household.
"You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household."
Based on these terms, I think your account is definitely possible, and your parents' account is risky, but not impossible. (Do this at your own risk.)
2. Once you have the total in your original UR account, you can freely transfer them to UA for ticketing on any Star Alliance member, including Asiana Airlines. UA doesn't have any third-party ticketing restrictions, but it's important to remember that the seats must be available for miles.
3. You don't need to have a UA credit card to redeem miles, but it's recommended that you have one, as mileage redemption on UA flights can vary significantly depending on whether or not you have a UA partner card.
4. If you're ticketing on the Chase site, you're redeeming UR points as if they were cash, in which case the value of UR points is fixed at 1.25 cents per point (for Sapphire Preferred accounts).
Thank you for your kind response.
In answer to #2
(once you've totaled up in your original UR account, feel free to pass it over to UA from there)
What does it mean to hand off to UA?
This refers to the point transfer discussed in the text. It literally means that UR points are exchanged for United Airlines miles at a 1:1 ratio. In other words, UR points turn into UA miles.
Thank you so much for your kind response.
Last?
If the UA you are referring to is
Are you referring to the United Explorer Card from Chase Bank?
Thank you
UA is United Airlines. Airline members don't need an affiliate card to sign up.
Thank you again for your kind response.
When can I close my newly opened Chase Sapphire Preferred card after receiving the signing bonus without incurring a penalty?
You'll need to keep it for at least a year until your next annual fee is due.
Thank you again for your kind response
Thank you for your kind response.
In answer to #3
(since the amount of miles deducted can vary greatly depending on whether you have a UA partner card)
What are some recommended UA partner cards to transfer Chase Sapphire Preferred points to?
Thanks again.
Whether or not you can transfer UR points to UA Airlines depends on whether or not you have a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Preferred card, also known as a Dorrance card, and has nothing to do with whether or not you have a UA partner card.
Where UA partner cards really shine is when you're using miles that have already been transferred to your UA account to ticket a UA flight.
For more information, see this article.

I always learn a lot from you. Thank you.
This might be a really basic question. In your example above, how do you buy an Asiana ticket with United miles? I've heard that you can fly Korean Air with Delta miles, but I don't know how to redeem miles for airline tickets, so I haven't used them much lol.
When you do a mileage seat search on the United site, if an Asiana flight comes up, you can just ticket it. You don't need to do anything else.
I have a question.
I have a Sapphire Reserve and my mom has a Sapphire Preferred.
Is it possible to send my mother's UR points to my reserve account?
You say in the text that you can only combine points for people in the same household, but my mom and I don't live together, so it would be best if I could use my reserve account with Chase Travel to get her a ticket, if possible.
I'd recommend calling Chase and asking them. Here's a related reddit thread.
https://www.reddit.com/r/awardtravel/comments/qaanr4/chase_transfer_between_households_question/
hello.
1. the sapphire reserve card signup bonus is 60,000, but if the annual fee is $550 and that much, it's better not to apply, right? The annual fee has gone up and the signup bonus (60,000) is the same as the regular sapphire card, so it doesn't seem worth it.
2. I got an Ink Cash card last week, can I get an Ink Sister card this week? I only have three credit cards.
1. I've seen offers as high as $80,000, so unless you're in a hurry, you might want to wait a bit longer.
2. Chase has a 1/30 rule, which means "if the second card you apply for in 30 days is a business card, you'll be denied" or "if you've already opened one Chase card [personal or business] within 30 days, the next business card you apply for will be denied".
Therefore, we recommend that you apply at least 30 days after your Ink Cash application date.
hello. I just wanted to ask you a question.
Is it possible to make a Biz Unlimited card for myself and make a wife one under the same company name, with an additional signup bonus?
I don't think I'll get the signup bonus if I sign up as an employee, so I'm going to sign up separately.
I was wondering if I could apply for a card under one company name and get a signup bonus, but then reapply under a different company name and not get the signup bonus...
Thank you.
I know that if you're both business partners, you can apply with different SSNs under the same EIN and get the signup bonus, but I can't find any examples right now, so you'll have to do this at your own risk.
hello!!!
Thank you so much for this very well organized post, I really enjoyed reading it. ^^.
I just wanted to ask you a question ^^.
I came to the US for training a year and two months ago and made a Sharpcard and used it for a year and a half.
But now I have to go back to Korea. TT TT
I'm using up the remaining miles now, and I still have about 10000 miles left.
I called Chase thinking I'd just cash it in and get rid of the card before the annual fee was due.
(The annual fee was paid on July 1 of last year).
They suggested I downgrade to Freedom.
I don't miss it, but the annual 10% anniversary bonus hasn't been paid yet, and the points I used this month will be paid next month, but if I get rid of the card, these will also be lost. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a freedom card. ^^)
If I downgrade to Freedom and go home and have it with me, it's not a big deal, right?
Can we just think of it as something that will expire later and then disappear?
Another question is that I'm thinking of closing my Chase account when I move from the US to Korea, is this not related to card retention?
Sorry for the long question. ^^^^
1. Downgrading to the Freedom Card is a good option, but you should consider that the Freedom Card has an overseas usage fee, so if you plan to use the card even once in Korea, you will be charged a fee.
If you're closing your Chase account, I think it would be cleanest to cancel all of your cards at the same time, as closing your payment account but keeping the card means you'll have to manage a separate account for the card payments, which is also a hassle.
Thank you very much. It's been so helpful for me as a beginner.
I recently opened a sari and it says 1x points per dollar for regular spending, so is it more beneficial to pay for regular spending with freedom money and transfer it to the sari and use it as UR?
For example, if I pay $10,000 for a car down payment on Freedom Sister, I get 15,000 points, and I transfer it to Sari and redeem it for UR, it will be 1.5x, totaling 22,500 points, correct?
That's right. You're right, there are cards that are good earners, there are cards that are good spenders, and doing what you're saying is the way to maximize your earnings.
