Venture Card Limited Time Offer (75,000 'miles' + $250 credit)

Venture Rewards Travel Card, issued by Capital One, is back with a limited-time offer.

The last offer started in July of last year and ended in September, so it's been almost 7 months since we've had an offer.

  • The usual offer is to get 75,000 "miles" for spending $4,000 in 3 months, but this limited-time-offer has an addition of $250 travel credit.
  • Considering that the highest sign-up bonus ever for this card was 100,000 "miles," I'd say this is pretty close to the highest offer ever.

In today's post, I've summarized the highlights of the offer, the card's key features, and what to look out for.

1. Basic information

The Venture Card is a $95 annual fee card that competes directly with Chase's Sapphire Preferred Card.

The points you earn with this card are Capital One's own loyalty program called "miles".

How to use these "miles"?

  • If you have the Venture card, you can transfer these "miles" to over 15 airlines, including Air Canada, Lifemiles, Turkish Airlines, and more (sometimes the ratio is 2:1.5 like EVA, but mostly it's 1:1).
  • You can also use Capital One's booking portal, called Capital One Travel, to book airline tickets or hotels through the site at a rate of 1 'mile' = 1 cent.
  • You can also use your Venture card on the official sites of airlines and hotels, and then use the 'miles' you have as cash to offset the amount of the purchase. It's a feature called "Cover Travel Purchases", where 1 'mile' is worth = 1 cent.
  • Of course, you can cash out directly, but that's never a good idea because the value of a 'mile' is halved to 1 'mile' = 0.5 cents.

This means that the 75,000 "miles" you receive as a sign-up bonus are guaranteed to have a minimum value of $$750, assuming you use them for travel expenses.

Of course, if you transfer them to airline miles, you may be able to extract even more value depending on how you redeem them.

For example, assuming that you accrued enough "miles", you can transfer them to EVA for a business class ticket. In this case, your "miles" would worth 2-3 cents per "mile".

2. $250 travel credit

For this limited-time offer, Capital One has added $250 travel credit in addition to the 'miles'.

As to this $250 credit:

  • It is issued in the form of a discount coupon to use on Capital One Travel, Capital One's own travel booking site.
  • If a travel product, such as an airline ticket, costs more than $250, the entire $250 will be used at once, but if it doesn't cost more than $250, the difference will be available for future use.
  • However, it's important to note that the coupon expires one year after it's issued.
  • It's also worth noting that this is a one-time offer, not an annual benefit.

3. 2 'miles' per dollar by default, a great card for everyday use

There's one advantage to the Venture card that's worth mentioning.

The card has a default earning rate of 2 "miles" per dollar.

Of course, "miles" here refers to Capital One's own unit of points, not airline miles as I mentioned earlier.

However, these "miles" are guaranteed to be worth 1 "mile" = 1 cent when redeemed for travel expenses, so Venture's default earning rate is 2 "miles" = 2 cents per dollar.

This means that (assuming you use it for travel expenses) the 2% accrual rate is basically guaranteed.

So I'd say it's a pretty good choice for everyday use. You don't have to carry around multiple cards and do the math to maximize the value of each item.

4. Things to note

There are a few caveats to this offer.

1) Rental car insurance is secondary

Many of you may have credit card-provided rental car auto insurance, called collision damage waiver (CDW) or loss damage waiver (LDW).

For the Venture card, the CDW is secondary. It means that if I have an accident, my auto insurance will cover it first and then the rest will be picked up by the CDW. You need to be extra careful with this one.

2) Issued as Mastercard

The card is issued as a Mastercard.

Costco stores only accept Visa for credit cards, so you can't use the card in-store.

Instead, Costco online accepts Mastercard. So the following would work:

  • You buy Costco's own gift certificates, Costco Shop Card from Costco online
  • Then, you can use this Shop Card to purchase items from Costco physical stores.

3) Lounge benefits discontinued

Until the end of 2024, cardholders of the Venture card were offered admission to Capital One Lounge up to two times a year.

Unfortunately, this benefit ended as of January 1, 2025.

Let's wrap up today's post.

It is great news that the Venture card's sign-up bonus has gone up. With the addition of the $250 travel credit, you can easily enjoy up to $1,000 in travel bonuses.

However, depending on your travel patterns, spending patterns, and where you live, your card utilization will vary greatly.

So, it's probably a good idea to check out the other cards that also have limited time offers.

  • Hi, I have a question...
If I create a Venture Rewards Travel Card first and open Venture X later, can I still get the sign-up bonus on both cards?
Also, if I get the Venture Rewards Travel Card sign-up bonus and close it later... If I have other Capital One cards, can I funnel points to one portal?

    Reply
    • 1. I know this is possible because the two cards are separate products.

      2. we understand that this is also possible. However, please remember to transfer the points first before closing the card.

  • Hi. I'm currently using the Chase Sharp and I'm thinking about switching because of the offer and have a few questions about the Sharp.

    1. Can I use the points I have accumulated without renewing (= canceling) my Sharp card?
    2. if not, is it possible to transfer sharp points to family members only (e.g. girlfriend)?

    Thank you.

    • Downgrade to no annual fee and keep the points. I'll lose them if I cancel when all I have is the Sap.
Or transfer to Hyatt or United and cancel

      Reply
    • 1. No, you lose your points when you cancel, which is why many people downgrade to a no-annual-fee card like the Freedom Unlimited card.

      2. the terms say "You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you or one member of your household." . Since your girlfriend is not a member of your household, I don't think this is possible.

If it were me, I'd go down with the Freedom Card.

  • I always use venture X when I go to Korea. Is this card also fee-free when used abroad? Also, since this is a personal card, the Chase 5/24 rule does not apply when applying, but it will be included in the 5/24 counting after issuance, right?

    Reply
    • 1. yes. This card also has no foreign transaction fees.

      2. correct. After the card is authorized, it starts counting 5/24.

    Thanks for the great information!
Is it possible to apply for another card while Venture is pre-provisioned and hit it hard? I was wondering if I can get Venture rejected if another card is drawn while I'm pre-purposed!!!

  • P2 P3 I'm trying to refer, but it says 100k signup bonus, but it doesn't say +250 credit, so I'm guessing it's only 100k points, right? It's better to get 7.5k+250 than 100k, right?

    Reply
    • Yes. I don't think there's a 250 for 100k, I thought you had to choose between 100k or 7.5k + 250. I think you also need to remember that the 100k offer has an additional $1,000 spend requirement.

  • I've been in the US for a year now, and I've gotten a lot of information from Milemoa.

I had the last slot open for the 5/24 and was waiting for a good Chase Sapphire Card offer, but with offers like this and the Venture Card utilization, is it worth filling the 5/24 over the Sapphire Card...?

Additionally, we'd really appreciate it if you could put us on your signup list!

    Reply
    • I'm told there will be a Sharp offer coming soon, so you may want to wait a bit longer. If you get Sharp and can afford to spend, you can get Venture.

We've added it to the list.

  • I got the card approved and started using it, but my purpose was to get 75000 miles, convert them to Korean Air miles, and use the miles to buy tickets when I visit Korea next year, but Korean Air is not included in the mile transfer... ㅠㅠ
I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know if there is any way to do this.

    Reply
    • You can transfer to Virgin and ticket on Korean Air. However, you'll need to look very far in advance as mileage availability is not great, and you won't be able to fly during Korean Air's peak season.
