Club1Hotels is a new membership based travel site that promises to deliver special wholesale pricing on hotels, car rentals, and tours.

Membership isn’t cheap – at over $600 a year – but it’s that membership requirement that lets them offer wholesale rates. The hook is that until October 31 they’re offering one year of membership for free, with no credit card required, letting you try it out for your next vacation search without getting billed when the free trial ends in a year.

There are lots of sites that promise to save on hotels, but few regularly beat a combination of using the hotel’s own website, or comparison sites like Trivago, to find the lowest rates. Of course sites like Priceline and Hotwire can save even more, but you’re gambling by not knowing the hotel you’re booking in advance, and Hotel Tonight can offer some great savings on hotels you can see in advance, but you can only book a week ahead of time with them.

We put Club1Hotels through the paces for several vacation destinations during Memorial Day weekend in May, and were surprised at some of the savings.

It didn’t always beat other sites, but we found enough big savings that it’s worth checking, especially if you have a specific hotel in mind and want to lock in the lowest possible rate.

While the site is positioned to serve the ultra high end luxury market that craves $500+ a night hotels, the hotels it displays are pretty comprehensive up and down the price spectrum, so if you’re looking for budget options you’ll find plenty.

We limited our search to 4 and 5 star hotels that are available for under $400 a night, and found no shortage of options, with many of the best rates flexible with no cancellation penalties until very close to arrival..
