How to Maximize Earning Chase Ultimate Reward (UR) |
Amazon
Amazon Gift Card from OfficeDepot using Chase Ink Cash (x5). Even if it’s business card, you can still transfer the UR to your personal Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred
Grocery (Cub Foods, Trader Joe’s, ALDI,... Not included Costco, Sam’s Club)
Use Chase Freedom while x5 Bonus Quarter. If you spent less than $1500 on that quarter, Buy Gift Card before ending the quarter
Costco/Sam’s Club
Use Chase Freedom while x5 Bonus Quarter. If you spent less than $1500 on that quarter, Buy Gift Card before ending the quarter
Gas
Use Chase Freedom while x5 Bonus Quarter. If you spent less than $1500 on that quarter, Buy Gift Card before ending the quarter
Target / Walmart / Starbucks
Buy Gift Card from cardcookie.com using Chase Freedom Unlimited (x1.5). cardcookie.com sells 11% off for Target most of time which is better than Target debit/credit card giving only 5%. It’s hard to get Walmart (~1%) GC.
You can load the GC to the Target/Walmart mobile app that helps managing the GC balance easy. Since it takes less than 5 minutes to get the GC after purchasing it from cardcookie.com, you can buy while you are shopping at the store. I buy little ness amount of GC than the amount I need to buy at the store to make zero balance in GC.
Caribou / Barnes & Noble / Panera Bread
Search GC store selling cheap one from giftcardwiki.com. Use Chase Freedom Unlimited (x1.5). General discount rate is 20% and 15% for Caribou and Barnes & Noble. GC warranty period is different by GC site and you can check it from giftcardwiki.com. If the purchased GC doesn’t work, then you can get a full refund within warranty period.
Travel (Restaurant, Hotel, Flight, Street Parking)
Use Chase Sapphire Reserve (x3). Some local restaurant may not be categorized as Restaurant, so please check Chase.com site regularly.
Internet / Mobile Phone Bill
Use Chase Ink Cash (x5).
About Merging UR
From Chase.com UR page, you can merge all UR points to Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred even from your spouse’s card.
About Buying Flight Ticket or booking Hotel.
Compare the price from
Chase UR Travel site cash (revenue) purchase price if you don’t have enough UR.
Chase UR Travel site UR point purchase price (1 pts = 1.5 Reserve / 1.25 Preffered cents )
Other deal sites like hotels.com, priceline.com, hotwire.com…
Official Flight / Hotel homepage cash (revenue) purchase price
Official Flight / Hotel homepage UR transferable price (1 pts = 1.5 cents) like Hyatt, Virgin Atlantic(they provide the connection flight from Delta/KAL), United,...
Then, choose the cheapest one.
About buying GC
Naver buy greater than what I want except stores I go daily.
Use Mobile App like Google Pay, Starbucks, Caribou, Panera Bread to manage balance.
Don’t buy if balance has cents like $19.45. Previous owner may have the GC number and possible to use it by mistake or intentional.
Buying MSP - ICN Delta tickets using UR in Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred
Use IM / Call to Virgin Atlantic (VA) and check availability of tickets by paying with miles. VA provides cheap miles tickets, one-way Economy (40,000) and Business (60,000).
Since VA doesn’t have route to ICN, they use Skyteam airline like Delta or Korean Air.
Check if searched tickets are non-stop (Delta opened this route from 2019.04).
Get booking number from VA and they hold 24 hours. Don’t worry. UR to VA miles transfer takes less than 2 min.
Call Chase card and ask to transfer UR to VA.
From opened IM from VA site, tell them it’s transferred and pay the tax + with your Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred.
