Global Entry

 

미국에 자주 오시는 분들은 “Global Entry” 을 한번쯤을 들어 보셨을껍니다. 미국에 도착 했을때 비행기에서 내려서 나오면, Citizen/Visitors 로 나누어 지는데, 그 사이에 무슨 ATM 기계 처럼 생긴 곳에 몇몇 사람들이 그냥 줄 거의 안 서고, 무인으로 입국 심사 하시는걸 부러운 마음으로 본적이 있을껍니다 (제가 그랬습니다. 남 잘 되는걸 잘 못 봐서)

 

참고로 지금은 입국 할때 주로 DFW 달라스 로 들어 오는데, 입국 심사 시간이 5분 내외 입니다. 세관 심사도 승무원/외교관 줄로 나옵니다. 귀찮게 안해서 좋습니다.

 

TSA PreCheck program 도 해당이 되서 괜찮은 프로 그램 입니다. 자세한 설명은 globalentry.gov!

 

때 마침 AMEX Platinum 에서 Global Entry application fees, $100 을 reimburse 해 주는 프로모션을 하고 있기에, 공짜인데, 해야지 하는 생각으로 했습니다.

 

먼저 Global Entry 를 Apply 하시 전에 필요한 서류/내용은

 

(미국 시민권자를 기준으로)

여권

운전면허증

그 동안 씌여 왔던 이름 (전 시민권을 받고서 middle name 을 영어 이름으로 써서, “예전”에 쓰던 한국이름이 있습니다.)

지난 5년 동안 살았던 주소

지금 일하는 곳/예전에 일했던 곳들

 

신청을 이제 하시려면

www.globalentry.gov 에 가시면 젤 아래 큼지막하게, Apply Today 라고 있습니다. 그걸 따라서 가시면 GOES (Global Online Enrollment System) 이란 곳으로 갑니다. 그 곳에서 우선 새롭게 enroll 을  하셔서 GOES User ID 를 받으셔야 합니다. GOES 자체가 Global Entry 는 아니고, 그걸 신청 할 수 있게 해주는 플래폼입니다.

 

그게 신청이 되서 Global Entry 를 신청 하려고 들어 가면 꽤 많은 정보를 요구 합니다. 우선 Personal Information 에선 이름, 눈 색깔, 키, Language Preference 르르 물어 보고요. 또 Other Names Used 도 물어 봅니다. 전 예전에 Middle name 쓰기 전 이름을 썼습니다. 그떄는 이름이 “길-동 홍” 이었거든요. 지금은 “길동 A. 홍” 이고요.

 

생년월일도 물어 보고, 태어난 곳을 물어 봅니다, 전 Republic of Korea 이고.

 

그 다음엔 Citizenship Information 을 물어 봅니다. 그때 여권 정보를 입력하시면 되고요. 여권 번호, 여권에 나온대로 제 이름등이 들어 갑니다. 그 다음엔 Admissibility Documents 라는걸 물어 보는데, 그때 다시 여권 정보와 제 Driver’s License 정보를 썼습니다. Current address 도 그때 들어 가고요.

 

그리고선Address history 를 물어 봅니다. 제 기억엔 지난 5년 을 물어 봤습니다. 그 다음 마지막으로 current employment status 자세 하게 물어 봅니다. 직장 이름, 언제 부터, 주소, 전화 번호 물어 보고요. 현 직장 전엔 뭐 했는지도 employment history 를 물어 봅니다.

 

그렇게 하시고 $100 내면 우선 끝납니다.

 

전 그리고서 1주일 정도 있다가 Conditional Approval 를 받았습니다.

Dear 남쪽

 

We are pleased to inform you that your U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Global Entry membership application has been processed and you are now invited to visit an enrollment center to complete the enrollment process.

 

You must login into the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) at www.cbp.gov within 30 days of the date of this letter to schedule an interview to finalize your enrollment.

If you applied to Global Entry because of your current NEXUS or SENTRI membership, the CBP officer will only take your photograph and a full set of fingerprints to complete your Global Entry application. After your photo and fingerprints are taken, you will be approved for Global Entry immediately and can begin using the program.

Your Global Entry membership will expire at the same time as your NEXUS or SENTRI membership. Your membership expiration date can be found on the front or back of your card or by accessing your GOES account.

 

Otherwise, you must bring with you the following original documents to the enrollment center:

• This Letter inviting you to an interview;
• A valid passport or permanent resident card. If you travel using more than one passport, please bring them to the interview so that the information can be added to your file. This provides you with the ability to use either passport at the Global Entry kiosk;
• Documents providing evidence of residency. Examples are a drivers license (if the address is current), mortgage statement, rental payment statement, utility bill, etc.
• If you are a UK citizen and applied for Global Entry, and you are not a U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder) you must bring an original copy of your ACRO Disclosure Certificate (police certificate) to the interview.

  When you visit the Enrollment Center, we will review your application and any additional information you provide at that time. We will verify your identity and documentation and take a full set of your fingerprints.

   

  Finally, we will complete the following:

  ·         Explain the terms and conditions of the Global Entry program.

  ·         Answer any questions or concerns you may have; and

  ·         Take your photograph.

  이렇게 나오고요. 그 다음에 인터뷰를 개별적으로 자기 시간에 맞추어서 스케줄을 해야 합니다. 전 휴스턴 공항에서 했습니다. 스케줄 하는건 쉬었고, 자리도 많았습니다. 예약은 꼭 해야 합니다.

   

  예약을 한 당일날엔 일부러 connection time 도 넉넉하게 잡고서 약간은 무서운 철문으로 되어 있는 CBP 오피스를 제 발로 걸어 들어 갔습니다. 약간 일찍 갔는데도, 바로 앉아서 인터뷰 시작 했고요. 젤 먼저 소개가 담긴 비디오를 봤고요. 그리고서 물어 보는건 Application 이 정확한지 틀린거 있으면 고쳐 줄까 하는 분위기였고요. 제가 시민권을 딴 날 확인 하고, 지금 하는 일 설명 해 달라고 하고 헀습니다. 그리고서 제 사진 찍고, Global Entry 에 대해서 간단한 설명후 24 시간안에 Approval email 을 받을꺼라고 알려 주면서 제 여권 뒤 커버 안쪽에 CBP 스티커를 붙여 주었습니다.

   

  이멜은 1시간 후에 왔습니다.

  We are pleased to inform you that your U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Global Entry program membership has been approved. You may use the program as soon as you receive and activate your new Global Entry card.

   

  If you enrolled in Global Entry, you may begin using the kiosk immediately. Global Entry cards are only issued to Global Entry members who are U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents or Mexican Nationals (who are not current SENTRI members). Global Entry cards are not valid at the Global Entry kiosks.

  Please visit globalentry.gov to review the program criteria for detail information.

   

  As a reminder, you must closely adhere to the program requirements and any violation of law or regulation may lead to the revocation of your program participation, and could result in the issuance of a penalty, seizure action, or criminal prosecution. Please periodically review the program requirements provided during your enrollment interview.
